The TechQuest STEM Academy has hosted a major research gathering known as the Omniverse Research Exchange, held within The Omniverse Africa Summit, bringing together researchers and experts from across 25 countries to showcase innovations spanning science, technology, and applied research.
The event, described by participants as a “bridge between roots and frontiers,” emphasized the importance of integrating Africa’s indigenous knowledge systems with frontier technologies to drive inclusive innovation across the continent.
According to research and STEM advocate Itoro Emembolu, the exchange created a platform where research gains greater impact through cross-border collaboration and interdisciplinary engagement.
Global Participation and Multi-Sector Innovation
The program featured contributions supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), bringing together researchers working on a wide range of projects, including portable low-cost CT scanning technology, post-quantum cryptography systems, solar-powered post-harvest solutions, and AI-based early autism detection tools.
Organizers say the diversity of topics reflects a growing trend in African-led research ecosystems, where innovation is increasingly focused on solving both local and global challenges through scalable technology solutions.
Institutional and Continental Collaboration
The initiative also received support from several key institutions, including the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD, the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), NITDA Nigeria, the National Council for Arts and Culture, and Crestsage Limited.
These partnerships highlight ongoing efforts to strengthen research infrastructure and innovation ecosystems across Africa through multi-agency collaboration.
Expanding Africa’s Research Frontiers
Speakers and participants emphasized the importance of positioning African research within global scientific conversations, rather than treating it as isolated or peripheral. The summit was framed as part of a broader movement to elevate African innovation systems by connecting academia, industry, and policy stakeholders.
Emembolu noted that the exchange demonstrated how research becomes more powerful when it transcends geographical and disciplinary boundaries, allowing ideas to move from local contexts to global applications.
