NCC Warns Against Unauthorized Use of 5.4 GHz Frequency Band

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a stern warning to telecommunications operators, private and public organizations, and the general public regarding the unauthorized use of the 5.4 GHz frequency band. This band, which spans the 5.430 – 5.725 GHz range, is a licensed frequency in Nigeria, and any transmission of signals or use of equipment on this band without a proper frequency license from the Commission is illegal.

The NCC emphasized that under Section 122 of the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) of 2003, operating on any frequency not officially assigned by the Commission is a criminal offense. Those found in violation may face severe penalties, including imprisonment, fines, and the confiscation of equipment used in the illegal operation.

The Commission has called on all telecommunications service providers, private and public organizations, and individuals using this band across Nigeria to ensure they are in compliance with the law. The NCC is committed to enforcing these regulations to maintain order in the country’s telecommunications sector.
