Prof. George Obiozor, former Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, has emerged as the President General of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo. The ex-diplomat polled 304 votes to defeat two other contestants in the election held at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in the Imo State capital, Owerri.
Earlier, the coast for victory was clear for Obiozor as all 49 contingents from Ebonyi State, which included the governor, Engr. David Umahi; Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, Senator Sam Egwu amongst other political-heavy-weights voted for him. His victory brings to an end the search for a replacement for John Nnia Nwodo, whose tenure as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has come to an end.
