Engr. Roberta Edu, CEO of Moppet, a leading producer of natural and organic baby formulas, has shared insights into the integral role that faith and church have played in her personal and professional journey. Speaking on society and religion, she emphasized the importance of church as a source of motivation and strength throughout her life.

“Going to church has been an integral part of my life, journey, and success,” Edu stated. “As much as we talk about religious issues, we should also highlight its success stories. Before motivational speakers and easy access to content, church was the platform where we could connect, receive the urge to forge ahead, build resilience, and tap into our inner power to achieve great things.”

Edu pointed to one Bible story that has remained particularly influential in her life—the parable of the ten virgins. “I love Jesus’ stories; if you follow his personal accounts, you will be highly inspired. The story of the ten virgins speaks to being prepared, building resilience, and being ready for opportunities even before they come. That’s been a guiding principle in my life.”

A regular churchgoer, Edu explained her approach to prayer and faith. “I go to church every Sunday, and I don’t ask God for a miracle. I don’t ask Him to cheat my brother or sister to bless me. Instead, I ask for wisdom to do the things that will allow me to build a strong foundation. I ask to be reminded of what I must do today for a brighter tomorrow, for strength to persevere, and for direction in my path. I want my blessings to be worth it. And the Lord has continually done this.”

Reflecting on her experiences after completing her program at Purdue University, Edu revealed that she was the only one among her peers to secure well-paying opportunities. “I wasn’t just ready for opportunities; I took advantage of them all,” she said.

As she looks to the future, Edu continues to rely on her faith for guidance. “Today, I am here again in the presence of God, asking for direction and guidance in my next path, my next breakthrough.”

Ending on a reflective note, she asked, “What are you praying to God for today?”

Lack of Miracles in Established Institutions Raises Questions About Religious Claims

In a stark revelation, renowned institutions such as the Pacelli School For The Blind in Surulere Lagos, National Orthopaedic Hospital in Igbobi Lagos, and Lagos Island General Hospital have reported zero instances of miraculous healing despite numerous visits from religious figures. Established facts and records demonstrate a consistent absence of supernatural interventions in these well-documented cases.

The Pacelli School For The Blind, founded in 1962, has witnessed over 5,000 visits by religious figures claiming to heal the blind through prayer. However, the harsh reality remains unchanged – not a single student has been cured of blindness through these spiritual endeavors.

Similarly, the National Orthopaedic Hospital, with a history dating back to 1945, has accommodated 450 beds that are consistently occupied. Despite the hopes placed in miracles, there have been no instances of bones miraculously resetting or limbs regrowing within its walls.

Even the Lagos Island General Hospital, established in 1893 and the first of its kind in Nigeria, stands testament to the absence of miraculous occurrences. Not a single person has been raised from the dead by any religious figure, regardless of spiritual or other claims.

The reason for the lack of miracles in these institutions is attributed to their meticulous record-keeping practices, documenting patients’ conditions before and after any supposed interventions. These records, coupled with the genuine disabilities and confirmed deaths of patients, present a stark contrast to the sensational claims often propagated in religious circles.

The anniversary will be a week-long event that will have praises and worship which will end on the first Sunday of April as the grand finale and thanksgiving Sunday. With many ministers of God being invited to Thanksgiving.

Lately, the Church has been under severe and harsh criticism due to the individual falling of pastors and members of the clergy. A lot of non-Christians have used these situtaion to deride the body of Christ and paint all the clergies with bad brush. The death of Sammy Okposo, a celebrated gospel evangelist and singer has been attributed to his fallings as a human being. In this light,a man of God, Pastor Courage Igene has come out to shut the critics and naysayers up saying that they are not in the position to judge.

Speaking to cross section of journalists, Pastor Courage Igene, a Nigerian pastor based in Huston, Texas said”The Body of Christ needs to do better on showing love to our wounded warriors. Many times, when something negative happens to a minister, other ministers would isolate that person and castigate that person, making them feel rejected. What this what Jesus taught us”

He added that “We quickly join the unbelievers to attack our own. It ought not to be so. Where is the Love of God in us? Let us do better. Let’s stop the hate and bitterness. Let’s love one another in righteousness and have a ministry of reconciliation and restoration instead of condemnation.

He opined that Christians should endeavor to defend the gospel in these perilous times that the devil is doing everything to turn people away from god. With the current realities in today’s world where church attendance have dwindled and reduced since the Covid 19, he said that there is need to ensure that Christians do not lose focus on the word of God and try as much not to follow the people of the world from bringing down the church.

The Regenerate Bible Study for Women Retreat Holds in December.

The Regenerate Bible Study for Women, a not-for-profit gathering is set to host its 2022 retreat in Lagos this December.

Regenerate as it is often called, poignantly reveals the Word of God to women, inviting them to receive God’s truth for balance, hope, and transformation.

The Retreat is scheduled to hold as follows:
Date: Saturday 3rd, December 2022.
Venue: La Madison Place Oniru, Lagos.

According to the convener, Mrs Eyitayo Iyortim, women from all-walks of life, irrespective of domination, status, or standing in life from across the country come together to have deeper intimacy with God during these retreats.

“We bond, worship, pray, study the word of God together, gain clarity and are refreshed, we just shut out the noise and distractions. Guest ministers and speakers are often invited to minister or speak at the retreat,” she said.

Mrs Iyortim said the theme for this year’s retreat, ‘Be Renewed ’, was culled from Ephesians 4:23 which reads: ‘…and be renewed in the spirit of your mind’.

“The vision, of Regenerate” Mrs Iyortim said is to “guide women into seeking God’s kingdom first and by doing so, fulfil their purposes here on earth”.

“The Regenerate Bible Study for Women is on a mission to see women from everywhere, worship God in spirit and in truth”.

The programme is FREE and occurs both physically and virtually on the group’s social media platforms.

The Retreat holds the first weekend in December every year. All adult women are invited to attend and be blessed.

Goya oil has become so sacred to Nigerian Christians. If you are a Christian in Nigeria and you have not at least sipped the oil for healings or applied it on your body for protection against demons or used it for deliverance, then you must be among the very few exceptions.

In Nigeria, Goya Extra Virgin Olive Oil is considered a Holy Anointing Oil that can drive away demons. In Spain where the founder Don Prudencio Unanue was from, and in America where he later founded the Goya company in 1936, Goya oil is simply a cooking oil or for Salad or for marinating.

While people in the US, Puerto Rico, Spain, and even in the UK keep Goya oil in their kitchens, those in Nigeria and various parts of West Africa, keep theirs on their Altars, sick people’s beds, and church handbags.

I am not in any way playing down on your faith because I know for a fact that with God, he can use anything he so pleases to transmit his power and blessings.

But you can’t ask a pregnant woman to be drinking a complete bottle of Goya oil every day so that she will deliver her baby like the “Hebrew women” and expect me to keep quiet.

You can’t be ignorantly applying cooking oil inside your eyes like an eye drop because you were told that it is an anointing oil that can open your eyes to see the demons around you and expect Fr Kelvin not to react.

You can’t go to bless people’s houses and empty more than 10 bottles of Goya oil at every corner of the building in the name of driving away demons and expect your ritual and ignorance to be left unquestioned.

You can’t be giving your children Goya oil on their way to school, asking them to rub it on their pens for exam success, or on their private parts to remain virgins and you expect everyone to fold hands and not talk.

You can’t take because you are an invited preacher to a crusade and come with your oil, claiming yours is more powerful than others even though they all carry the same labels. . .then you sell yours three times the original price because you claim it cures HIV/AIDS, and expect that no one will call you out.

There are many things you all should just stop. These abuses should just stop!

More disheartening is that many of what some of you consume as Goya olive oil in Nigeria is fake. Even as you read this, there are people somewhere using paraffin Oil and color to produce the oil, then they package it with the name Goya Extra Virgin Olive Oil to sell to you.

Well, I do not fully understand the reason why Christians of other denominations use Goya oil, so I won’t question them. . . But I will question Catholics.

If you are a Catholic, you have to convince me why you are using Goya oil for ANOINTING? Where exactly did you get your teachings from?

First, you cannot anoint yourself by yourself. It is not theological, it is not biblical, it is not Catholic practice. Even a priest when sick, cannot anoint himself.

In the book of James 5:14, the sick person is supposed to call the elders who will anoint him or her with oil. In Leviticus 8:12, Moses anointed Aaron. In 1 Sam 16:13, Samuel anointed David. We can go on and on.

Note this: there are cases in the bible in which people were said to have anointed themselves with oil, but it was used in the same context as telling someone to rub cream and look good. For example, Matthew 6:17 says “But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face.” The word “anoint” here is like saying, “apply” hair cream. (This is not the type of “anointing” we are talking about.)

Secondly, the Catholic church already has provisions for Anointing and the oils to be used are clear. If you are sick, the priest anoints you with the OIL OF THE SICK. Before baptism, you are anointed with the OIL OF CATECHUMEN to exorcise you of any powers that are not from God. Then at baptism, confirmation, and priestly ordination, you are anointed with CHRISM OIL which signifies that you are a priest, a king, and a prophet.

These three oils: Oil of Chrism, Oil of the Sick, and Oil of Catechumen are blessed by the Bishop of the diocese every year during the Chrism Mass and given to all priests to use on the people of God. How did Goya oil come into the picture as anointing oil? I am asking you my dear Nigerian Catholics.

Superstitious beliefs come at a cost to the society.

When we say money rituals DO NOT work – human body parts do not and can never magically vomit money for anyone or make you successful; it has no basis in reality; there is no evidence that it works and anyone who remotely believes in such baseless myth is not only irredeemably stùpiď but also a danger to people around them – we are not only trying to debunk a dangerous myth, we are also trying to keep the society sane and safe.

We can see the toll it is having on us. There is hardly a day you will check the news and won’t see stories of people beheading their fellow humans for money rituals. People are murdered everyday for nothing, human body parts are trafficked and ladies’ underwears are snatched at gunpoint. Rationality is sacrificed and absurdities take over. Superstition is dangerous to the general wellbeing of the society.

The idea that human body parts can magically make a person wealthy can only be believed by a degenerated brain.

It is this same insane superstition that motivates some young ladies to take pictures of men to some religious jamboree with the aim of ‘spiritually’ manipulating them into marriage.

Money ritual starts from the mind. Anyone who really believes it works is a potential ritualist and a danger to the society, because the first step to murdering people and using their body parts for rituals is to believe it works.

There is an urgent need to dispel this dangerous myth. It is a hoax that has taken the lives of innocent people.

CULTURE DOES NOT MEAN A RETURN TO ANTIQUITIES

Putting on an Isiagu dress, red cap, holding a local fan or even an Ikenga alone, does not make one a traditional person. Living in a mud house, performing a traditional wedding, naming ceremony or joining a masquerade group alone, does not make one a traditional person either. The main questions are: do you know the reasons behind those acts/ behaviour? Do you know the values they carry? Do you know that every culture or tradition tells a story, gives a direction or sounds a warning? Do you know the story, direction, warning and values behind the culture you are practicing today? Do not forget that customs/ cultures are not arbitrary. They are not done for doing sake. Culture does not simply mean a return to antiquities. It is not just about going back to the past. Even when we need to look into the past, the aim is to retrieve values that build the community and not to live in the past. The Chinese, Europeans and many others seem to have understood this very well. Our forefathers did not live in the past of their own ancestors. They rather improved on the past of their ancestors and made sure that the storyline was not broken. They were open to changes. They willingly borrowed traditions of their neighbours that they found useful. Some celebrations or groups like Ekpe cult or some food we have today like rice, cassava, beans, tomatoes, onions and so on were not there from the beginning. They were borrowed and indigenized. It is no longer a secret that some of our ancestors willingly accepted Christianity and Western education. We do not fight for the restoration of culture so as to remain in the past. Not at all. We do that in order to restore our core values and storylines so that we may base our growth on the achivements of our forebears; because it is only by so doing that we can achieve an organic, a stable and meaningful growth.
