In a generous act of philanthropy, Stanley Ugbo Okeke, in collaboration with the Lord Zeus Foundation, has donated musical equipment, a Toyota Sienna car, and a cash reward of  millions of  Naira to Theresa Oforji, popularly known as Nwanyi Umuoji, a celebrated musician from Idemili Local Government Area in Anambra State. This initiative is part of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to uplifting the Igbo community in Southeast Nigeria through financial support, education, and health outreach programs.

At the presentation ceremony, the founder of the Lord Zeus Foundation, known as Lord Zeus, highlighted the significance of patience and resilience. He acknowledged Theresa Oforji’s contributions to the music industry during a time when there were few financial gains for artists. “Today, with the support of Stanley Ugbo Okeke, we are proud to present her with this cash reward, new musical equipment, and a Toyota Sienna car to aid her in logistics,” Lord Zeus stated.

Lord Zeus expressed gratitude for the continued support from his partners and remained optimistic about future endeavors. “When I say it can only get better, believe me, it will get better. I am glad to announce that Queen Theresa Oforji is now a verified and certified car owner, along with a cash reward of one million Naira.”

He also extended heartfelt thanks to Stanley Ugbo Okeke, CEO of DPD Investment Limited, acknowledging him as “Ekwueme 101” for his generosity. “I pray that God will replenish you and grant you all the desires of your heart according to His will,” he added. In observance of World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 and the dedicated month for Autism, GT Bank Nigeria partnered with acclaimed artist Kanye Tagbo Okeke for his latest international exhibition in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This collaborative effort served as a celebration of World Autism Day 2024.

The H Dubai proudly partnered with Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke, a young artist defying the odds of autism, to showcase a selection of his captivating artworks at the hotel. The exhibition, titled “Spectrum Splendor: A Young Artist’s Journey,” featured 20 exceptional pieces by the Nigerian artist and ran from April 1 to April 5. Its objective was to inspire and promote inclusion through the medium of art.

As part of The H Dubai’s commitment to inclusivity, the hotel provided specialized training to staff sensitized to the diverse needs of guests, particularly ensuring that individuals on the autism spectrum felt welcomed and supported during their stay.

Kanyeyachukwu Tagbo Okeke, an award-winning artist making waves in Nigeria and beyond, expressed, “Art has been my voice, allowing me to express myself in ways I couldn’t otherwise. I hope my journey inspires others and helps raise awareness about autism.”

GT Bank Nigeria emphasized, “Autism has a spectrum of colors, and therein lies the beauty of diversity and the potential within every individual. Be a voice for people living with autism.”

The remarkable young artist had already garnered awards, with his pieces displayed in galleries and museums across the US, Europe, Nigeria, and other parts of Africa, as well as in private collections. He had been recognized by ATIM Top 60 Masters and received the Artist of the Year award at the African Contemporary Art Festival.

Kanye’s art not only inspired but also promoted inclusion, making The H Dubai, the first autism-certified hotel in Dubai, an ideal venue for his exhibition.

The exhibition concluded on April 5, 2024. Guests enamored with particular art pieces were encouraged to make purchases, with a percentage of proceeds from all sales donated to the Dubai Autism Centre.

On April 5, Kanye led a workshop where he personally guided and inspired children from the Dubai Autism Center to create their own beautiful works of art.

Sophie Blondel, General Manager of The H Dubai, expressed, “Kanye’s remarkable journey as a young artist living with autism aligned perfectly with our vision. By showcasing his works, we aimed to spark meaningful conversations about autism, break down stereotypes, and foster a culture of inclusivity in our community.”

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has commended the United States for the repatriation to Nigeria of 23 Benin Bronzes, part of the thousands of artifacts that were looted by the British during their invasion of Benin Kingdom in 1897.

The Minister gave the commendation at the Benin Bronzes’ repatriation ceremony in Washington, DC, on Tuesday

”Please permit me, on behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, to most sincerely thank the United States and her major cultural heritage institutions for the return of these highly-cherished Benin Bronzes to Nigeria – which is the reason we are here today,” he said.

”These artifacts are intrinsic to the culture that produced them. A people ought not be denied the works of their forebears. It is in the light of this that we are delighted with today’s repatriation of the Benin Bronzes,” Alhaji Mohammed said.

He thanked the Boards of Trustees of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, the National Gallery of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design for engaging in the discussions with Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments that led to the repatriation of the artifacts.

The Minister disclosed that Nigeria will soon launch an international traveling exhibition with the artifacts being repatriated ”in a manner that will win more friends and promote greater goodwill for Nigeria and the ethnic groups that produced the artifacts”.

He said the release of the Benin Bronzes found in the US was a testament to the success of the
Campaign For The Return and Restitution of Nigeria’s Looted/Smuggled Artifacts from around the world, which was launched in November 2019.

”We have also received or are in the process of receiving repatriated artifacts from The Netherlands, the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, Mexico, the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom and Germany, among others,” Alhaji Mohammed said.

He recalled that Nigeria and the US have signed a bilateral cultural property agreement to prevent illicit import into the United States of some categories of Nigerian artifacts.

”This agreement solidifies our shared commitment to combat looting and trafficking of precious cultural property, while also establishing a process for the return of trafficked cultural objects, thus reducing the incentive to loot sites in Nigeria,” the Minister said.

In his remarks, Lonnie G. Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian, said the Institution was “humbled and honored to play a small role in transferring ownership of the art works to Nigeria”, adding that ethical consideration should be at the heart of what Smithsonian as an institution does.

The returned artifacts comprise 21 from the Smithsonian and one each from the National Gallery of Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Also at the ceremony were the Director-General of Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monument, Prof. Abba Tijani; Prince Aghatise Erediauwa, Representative of the Oba of Benin; Ngaire Blankenberg, Director of the US National Museum for African Art (NMAfA) and Kaywin Feldman, Director, US National Gallery of Art (NGA).
