Developed in partnership with Africa No Filter, Electric South and Imisi 3D this forms part of Meta\u2019s XR Programs and Research investment into XR talents across Africa.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With a focus on owning and shifting the African narrative, whilst telling compelling African stories that are contemporary\u00a0and\u00a0immersive,\u00a0the\u00a0finalists\u00a0have\u00a0developed\u00a0a\u00a0range\u00a0of\u00a0immersive\u00a0digital\u00a0experiences\u00a0rooted\u00a0in African culture across various media formats including 360 video, AR\/VR and Mixed\u00a0Reality.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The experiences showcased include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Malik Afegbua, Nigeria:\u00a0<\/strong>Malik\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Moving Between\u2019 is a 360 documentary that presents a virtual heritage experience of the\u00a0Kofar-Mata\u00a0dye pit, a cultural and historical site in\u00a0Kano,\u00a0Nigeria, by showcasing it in a three-dimensional virtual reality model. In a 5-minutes immersive experience, a deaf dancer\u00a0takes\u00a0the audience on a tour through the historic\u00a0Kofar-Mata\u00a0dye pits, using sign language instructions anddance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Xabiso Vili, South Africa:\u00a0<\/strong>A\u00a0writer,\u00a0performer and new media artist,\u00a0Xabiso\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Black Boi meets Boogeyman\u2019 is a multi-ending,\u00a0\u2018choose\u00a0your adventure\u2019 style 360\u00b0 visual album. A speculative fiction piece where Black Boi, our protagonist, goes on a\u00a0hero\u2019s\u00a0journey through a South Africa that needs reminding of its light to confront the Boogeyman. This 360 visual album hopes to become an access point in which artists and communities can imagine using XR artistically and intentionally for communalhealing.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dylan\u00a0Valley,\u00a0South Africa:\u00a0<\/strong>Dylan\u2019s\u00a0Cissie Gool House is a\u00a0<strong>360 documentary\u00a0<\/strong>about a precarious housing occupation in a new Cape\u00a0Town\u00a0hospital. This 360 documentary will immerse the viewer in the occupation as if they were partaking in reclaiming the building. The film will showcase the voices of the activists and occupiers who call Cissie Gool House home and speak to those who would rather have them gone. The medium of VR will allow for greater empathy for these characters (often demonised in the press). It will impart a deeper understanding of what it means to\u00a0occupy,\u00a0especially when it is the only viable option youhave.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nirma Madhoo, Mauritius:\u00a0<\/strong>A fashion\u00a0filmmaker,\u00a0XR creator and Ph.D. candidate.\u00a0Nirma\u2019s\u00a0\u2018XWE,\u2019\u00a0<strong>360 fashion film\u00a0<\/strong>using volumetric capture and photogrammetry is a tribute to the original\u00a0stargazers\u00a0of SouthernAfrica.\u00a0It\u00a0will\u00a0celebrate\u00a0the\u00a0constellations\u00a0of\u00a0dispersed\u00a0diasporic\u00a0African\u00a0identities\u00a0through\u00a0a Noirwave fashion performance set in a VR landscape of\u00a0astrophysics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Pierre-Christophe Gam, Cameroon:\u00a0<\/strong>Pierre is a multimedia artist who\u00a0worked\u00a0on\u00a0\u2018TOGUNA\u2019,\u00a0a hybrid (both live and online) Art installation, fusing AR\/VR, film,\u00a0photography,\u00a0mixed-media sculpture, future-thinking and storytelling, designed to facilitate a forum for an innovative conversation on the future of the African continent. He drifts through a seriesof\u00a0absurd\u00a0encounters\u00a0in\u00a0an\u00a0attempt\u00a0to\u00a0pay\u00a0a\u00a0motorbike\u00a0loan\u00a0of\u00a0KSH\u00a01000\u00a0($10).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<p>Sherry Dzinoreva, Meta\u2019s Public Policy Programs Director, Africa, Middle East, and Turkey, said: \u201cAs the next phase of this programme, we\u2019re delighted to be unveiling this specially curated exhibition featuring the work of six talented creators from across the continent, all of whom have created beautiful, thought-provoking African stories and experiences using immersive technology.
