President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering tangible progress for Nigerians, emphasizing that his administration is focused on improving infrastructure, ensuring food and energy security, enhancing education, and stabilizing the economy. Addressing the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly on Friday, September 20, 2024, the President made it clear that his intention is to serve the country, not for personal gain.<\/p>\n

“I didn\u2019t come to look for money; I came to work. I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me,” Tinubu told the gathering, which included 16 former presiding officers of the National Assembly, such as former Senate Presidents, former Speakers, and their deputies. The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, was led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani.<\/p>\n

During the session, President Tinubu reflected on the complexities of nation-building and legislative processes, stressing the importance of collaboration and unity across political lines. He urged the Forum members to continue fostering camaraderie, regardless of party affiliations, to advance the nation\u2019s development goals. Tinubu acknowledged their support and confidence in his administration\u2019s efforts, despite the challenging economic situation.<\/p>\n

“Yes, there is hardship, but how did we get here? We neglected our communities and failed to invest in education. The education environment must be improved to encourage school enrollment,” Tinubu remarked, pointing to past mismanagement of the country’s resources during periods of high crude oil production.<\/p>\n

The President outlined his administration\u2019s priorities, which include infrastructure development, financial regulation compliance, alternative energy exploration, and energy security. He reassured the former presiding officers that his administration is dedicated to addressing these issues, noting that collaboration and inclusiveness are key to achieving success.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, Senator Ken Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the delegation, praised President Tinubu\u2019s leadership and expressed the group\u2019s full support for his administration\u2019s efforts. Nnamani highlighted the President\u2019s decisive handling of local government autonomy as a key achievement, earning admiration across political divides.<\/p>\n

\u201cThough the challenges are significant, we are confident in your ability to overcome them. Your courage and experience give us hope that Nigeria can navigate through these difficult times,\u201d Nnamani said.<\/p>\n

The Forum of Former Presiding Officers pledged to unite across all divides and provide whatever assistance is necessary to contribute to the nation\u2019s progress. They also acknowledged the President\u2019s trust in appointing some of their members to key national positions, recognizing their role in governance and nation-building.<\/p>\n

The meeting marks President Tinubu\u2019s first official engagement with the group since assuming office, with both sides emphasizing their shared commitment to tackling Nigeria\u2019s pressing challenges and restoring the country\u2019s pride on the global stage.<\/p>\n

Bayo Onanuga, the President\u2019s Special Adviser on Information & Strategy, released official photographs from the meeting, showcasing Tinubu in discussion with key former presiding officers, including Rt.
