The recent Government Parastatals Conversation Panel session, themed “Collaborative Innovation: Shaping Africa’s Tomorrow Economy,” brought together prominent figures from various sectors to discuss the critical role of innovation and collaboration in driving economic growth across the continent. The event featured distinguished speakers, including the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi; the CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Communications, Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey; the DG/CEO of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Chinyere Almona; and Mr. Olu Akinkugbe, Executive Director of Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented at the panel by Dr. Aristotle Onumo, the Director of Stakeholders Management and Partnerships at NITDA, opened the session by highlighting the significance of collaboration in fostering innovation. In his address, Inuwa emphasized that in today’s fast-evolving global landscape, successful innovation cannot thrive in isolation. Instead, it requires a synergistic approach where stakeholders across industries work together to harness their collective strengths.

Dr. Onumo articulated Inuwa’s vision, stating that collaboration among government agencies, private enterprises, and civil society is essential for unlocking Africa’s economic potential. He stressed the necessity of establishing trust and transparency as foundational elements in building effective partnerships. According to Onumo, these principles not only foster goodwill but also facilitate open communication, which is vital for aligning objectives and achieving shared goals.

The panelists engaged in a lively discussion on various strategies for enhancing collaborative innovation, addressing challenges such as regulatory hurdles, resource allocation, and the need for a skilled workforce. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey echoed these sentiments, noting that the integration of technology in communication and commerce is pivotal in creating an enabling environment for innovation. He called for policies that support knowledge sharing and the development of digital infrastructure, which are essential for businesses to thrive.

Dr. Chinyere Almona added that the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry is committed to promoting collaborative initiatives that empower entrepreneurs and stimulate economic growth. She highlighted several ongoing projects aimed at facilitating partnerships between local and international businesses, which she believes will enhance Africa’s competitiveness in the global market.

Mr. Olu Akinkugbe shared insights from Galaxy Backbone, emphasizing the role of technology in bridging gaps between sectors. He reiterated the need for a cohesive strategy that leverages digital solutions to improve service delivery and operational efficiency across parastatals.

The session concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to embrace a collaborative mindset. On October 10, 2024, the Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, unveiled his vision to position NASENI as Nigeria’s top agency for innovation and technology transfer. This announcement came as Halilu marked his first year in office.

Reflecting on the achievements during his tenure, Halilu emphasized that NASENI’s role in the country’s socio-economic development is now firmly in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “One year after, it is a case of promise made and kept,” he said, highlighting that 36 products developed by NASENI are already available in the corporate market.

Among the products NASENI has introduced are solar irrigation pumps, electric vehicles, smartphones, solar home systems, and smart meters, underscoring the agency’s commitment to innovation and commercial viability. Halilu also shared plans to expand access to these products by opening a retail showroom. “We want to have a showroom where people can walk in and buy,” he added.

Under Halilu’s leadership, NASENI has forged partnerships with strategic stakeholders and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to enhance local content and ensure sustainable technology transfer. These efforts have placed NASENI at the forefront of Nigeria’s technological advancement, with a clear focus on bringing its innovations from development to market.

The Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, MON and NSA Nuhu Ribadu has been lauded by the Coalition of Northern Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) for their decisive and robust leadership in the ongoing battle against banditry and terrorism in Northern Nigeria. This commendation follows the recent successful military operation that led to the elimination of a notorious terrorist leader, Mai Hijabi, this is a significant breakthrough in the fight against insecurity in the region.

The CNCSOs, through its spokesperson, Alhaji Usman Usman, eulogized Dr. Matawalle and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, for their strategic roles in restoring peace and security to the North. Alhaji Usman remarked, “The leadership of Matawalle and Nuhu Ribadu has brought renewed hope to the troubled region. The elimination of Mai Hijabi under their watch demonstrates effectiveness and dedication to ending terrorism.”

The Coalition further emphasized that the appointment of Matawalle and Ribadu by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was pivotal to the positive changes being witnessed in Northern Nigeria and also epitomizes President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR commitment to restoring peace and stability in Northern Nigeria. According to the coalition, the armed forces, under their leadership, has integrated robust strategies that combine military, political, and socio-economic measures to combat insecurity. “Matawalle’s approach has inspired confidence among Nigerians. His resolve to rid the North-West of terror is evident in the results being achieved on the ground,” Usman stated.

In his response, Dr. Matawalle reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring peace across Northern Nigeria. He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their support of the armed forces and other security agencies, stating, “Together, we will defeat those who seek to terrorize our people. The success of our operations is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our forces, and we will not relent.” He added that ” Let me remind you that I am the only Governor that has sworn by the Holy Quaran that I have no hand or connections with banditry and I am not happy with what is currently happening ” Matawalle said

In a remarkable display of emotional resilience and creative brilliance, Dr. Ifeyinwa Iyke Uzondu, a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri, recently presented her critically acclaimed play Even at Death this 11th of October 2024. The play, which explores deeply personal themes of loss, trauma, and the consequences of life’s critical choices, has garnered widespread praise from fellow theatre professionals and audiences across the state.

In an emotional interview following the play’s performance, Dr. Ifeyinwa Iyke Uzondu shared that Even at Death was written during one of the most challenging times of her life. “This play is my fourth work, but it’s the most personal one I’ve ever written,” she revealed. “It was born out of a period of intense emotional and psychological suffering. I lost my elder brother in 2017, and the circumstances surrounding his death inspired much of what you see in this play. It was during those dark days that I felt compelled to put my feelings on paper, using my craft as a way to channel my grief and pain.”

For Dr. Ifeyinwa, Even at Death was not just a work of fiction, but a mirror of her own struggles. “The themes in this play are a direct reflection of the personal turmoil I faced,” she said. “I was bruised, shattered, and devastated. Writing this play was my way of navigating through the storm. It touches on the consequences men face when they make poor choices in life partners, an issue that led to my brother’s untimely death. I wanted to use the story as a cautionary tale, not just for entertainment but as a means of educating and enlightening people.”

What sets Even at Death apart is its raw authenticity. Dr. Ifeyinwa explained that the play’s content is deeply rooted in reality. “I can confidently say that 75% of the play is based on true events, while the remaining 25% was creatively crafted to enhance its entertainment value and make it suitable for the stage. The balance between truth and fiction is what gives the play its power. I believe in using theatre not just to entertain, but to provoke thought and inspire change in society.”

The play’s performance at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education was a milestone for both Dr. Ifeyinwa Uzondu and the Theatre Arts Department. It demonstrated the department’s commitment to producing works that engage with real societal issues and highlighted the strength of the institution’s academic and creative programs. Dr. Ifeyinwa’s leadership, along with other experienced lecturers, has positioned the department as a force to be reckoned with in the world of theatre arts.

In addition to the play’s success, Dr. Ifeyinwa expressed immense gratitude to her colleagues, students, and friends who supported her through the journey of bringing Even at Death to life. “I am so thankful to my coursemates for their solidarity. Your messages, calls, and encouragement have meant the world to me. I promise to provide free copies of the play once it is published. Chibueze Uche Anukanti, a seasoned realtor with PWAN, recently shared a crucial lesson with Nigerians about land ownership and the underappreciated value of subsistence farming. With his wealth of experience in real estate, Anukanti highlighted an often overlooked opportunity for landowners who lack the immediate funds to build: farming. Specifically, small-scale farming, which not only provides sustenance but also offers a practical means of utilizing idle land.

In a candid post on his page, Chibueze posed a provocative question: “Why die in hunger when you have a plot of land somewhere?” His simple, step-by-step guide to farming a single plot of land—planting corn, yams, plantains, and cassava—struck a chord. He emphasized that a single plot of cassava, when combined with other foodstuffs, can feed a family of four for three months.     In a bold demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to enhancing national security, the Honourable Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawalle, MON, and the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, His Excellency Alh. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, Ph.D., FCNA, jointly inspected the ongoing development of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) 119 Composite Group (CG) provisional layout in Sokoto State.

    During the visit, Dr. Matawalle praised the dedication and professionalism of NAF personnel, stating, “The Nigerian Air Force continues to play a critical role in safeguarding our nation. The Federal Government will ensure you have all the necessary resources to maintain operational efficiency, especially in countering security threats in the North-West.” The Minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to bolster NAF’s capacity as part of the strategic fight against insecurity in the region.

    Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto commended the synergy between the Federal and State Governments in addressing security challenges, declaring, “Sokoto State stands firmly with the Armed Forces. We are committed to providing all necessary support to ensure peace and stability for our people.” He pledged continued cooperation to enhance security in the state and across the region.

    Furthermore the Governor also commended the Hon Minister of State? Bello Matawalle for the commitment he has exhibited in getting the North-West out of the security quagmire.

    According to the Governor, “The Minister has shown resilience and bravery by penetrating into what used to be a ‘NO-GO AREA’ and had even opened up areas that were hitherto deserted by our people,”.

    The Honourable Minister and the sokoto state Governor were briefed by the Unit Commander on the progress of the project. The GOC 8 Division Brigadier General I.A Ajose and other top military officers were also present.
