In continuation of his Operational visits to the Theatre of Operations in the North East Region, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).Major General Ibrahim Attahiru today 8th February 2021 visited Special Army Super Camp 1 Ngamdu. He was briefed by the Sector Commander, Sector 2 OPLD Major General OO Oluyede on the successes and achievement so far recorded since the commencement of Operation TURA TAKAIBANGO within Sector 2 Operation LAFIYA DOLE Area of Responsibility and as well the readiness of the troops and equipment in the Sector.

The COAS while addressing the troops commended them for their loyalty and doggedness in the ongoing fight against Insurgency in the North East. He assured troops of his support and robust welfare packages to boost their morale as they continue the war against insurgency.

He also extended greetings from the President and Commander in Chief of Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari to troops.

In the year 2017, she was selected by the National Association of Women in Sports (NAWiS) as Women’s representative in the Nigerian Rugby Football Federation (NRFF).

Following her membership into NRFF, Grace partook in many activities concerning the development of the sport in Benue State and later contested for the position of the National Vice President of the NRFF in 2017 and emerged winner.

She has since 2017 been involved in the Administration and Management of the sport in Nigeria. As an administrator of the sport, She set up Male and Female Rugby teams in Benue state and has also developed and helped to inculcate the sport in secondary schools across Benue State.

Grace is a retired Chief Nursing Officer, Retired as premier league grade one football referee and once served as Chairman of Benue State Football Association. She was also a former member of the National Women’s Football Board.

The 2021 Tomorrow’s Cyber Heroines study undertaken by CyberHeroines, KnowBe4 Africa and Infosphere Limited surveyed more than 445 teachers across 14 African countries to unpack the complexities that face African girls in the technology landscape. With Africa’s future reliant on its ability to adapt to digital transformation and the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), levelling the playing field for women has become critical. It has never been more important to change the cybersecurity workforce gender statistics than it is today.

“We have to give girls more opportunities, inspire them to get involved in technology and the cybersecurity field, and to remove the preconceived and socialised ideas that prevent women from pursuing careers in technology,” says Anna Collard, SVP of Content Strategy and Evangelist KnowBe4 Africa. “The world is digitising rapidly and women are at risk of being left behind. We have to change the dialogue around technology and make it more inclusive for women and girls.”

Women are already at a disadvantage. A recent study (http://bit.ly/39RuMGq) by the Association for Progressive Communications underscored the reality of the gender digital divide. In Africa women have less access to internet-based technologies than men, they have fewer opportunities, they are even more limited in their ability to move out from under poverty. As the world continues to move into automation, women will be the most affected as their roles are replaced by machines. Change has to start now, it has to start at home, and it has to be carried through into education.

“We want African women to participate in the digital age – we cannot leave them behind,” says Aprielle Oichoe, Managing Director of InfoSphere. “We must empower girls to go into technology and this starts at a young age. We need to make a conscious decision to change the way we treat young girls. The dialogue needs to focus on making technology interesting for girls, not just something that they should ‘leave to their brother.”

The study found that a lack of education, limited guidance, minimal role models and societal preconceptions are having a serious, long-term impact on women’s careers and futures. With cybersecurity and technology struggling to find skilled people, the market is wide open for those with the talent and the training to build sustainable and successful futures. In addition to thriving careers, training and education in technology and cybersecurity is essential for the wellbeing of young girls and women in Africa.

“According to research, women of colour are 34% more likely to be targeted by online hate speech than their white counterparts, and a huge percentage of African girls are concerned about their online safety,” says Collard. “We must give them the tools, training and confidence they need to prepare for this online vitriol, and protect themselves.”

The key factors inhibiting women’s entry to the worlds of technology and cybersecurity include: negative stereotypes, lack of role models or mentors, low self-confidence, and competing in a male-dominated industry. Women are generally discouraged from careers in STEM and steered towards traditionally female roles instead.

“There is no such thing as a female role, not anymore,” says Oichoe. “Now there is just opportunity. We just have to make sure that this opportunity is given to everyone.”

Operatives of the Uyo zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on February 3, 2021 arrested one Edidiong Emmanuel Inyang, a fake medical doctor who specialize in employment scam. He was arrested along Ritman University Road, Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

Inyang ran into trouble when his brother-in-law, one Charles Bassey Udonde, whom he had offered to help secure employment with an International Oil Company, petitioned the Commission.

According to the petitioner, in 2016, the suspect collected N2.6million from him for Health and Safety Environment 1, 2 and 3 Certificate, Police clearance, Governor’s Recommendation Letter, Basic Diploma in Occupation Safety, Job Processing Fee, amongst others.
Narrating further, the complainant alleged that the suspect asked him to bring in more people as he had “slots” and wanted to help more people secure employment.

Convinced, the petitioner invited involved more people including his girlfriend, Idongesit Effiong Ekanem. The suspect successfully defrauded his friends over N10million for non-existent jobs.

Investigations into the matter reveals that the petitioner’s ordeal started in 2015 when the suspect met his wife (the complainant’s sister). He had presented himself as a medical doctor and staff of University of Uyo who recently got employed in an International Oil Company and wanted to settle down.

In 2016, they got married and the suspect informed his wife about the employment opportunity in the oil company.

The suspect asked his wife to inform her brother (the complainant) about the opportunity as his uncle who is a director in the oil company, had slots.

Believing her husband, the wife informed the brother and assisted with part of the money the husband requested for.

It dawned on them that the suspect is a serial fraudster when he was arrested by one of the security agencies (The Nigeria Police Force) in 2017, for scamming other people, using same method. The matter is still in court.

The suspect, who has been confirmed as an impostor, was arrested with a Stethoscope and a Samsung S6 tablet.

He will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
