I have just finished seeing Afamefuna on Netflix together with my wife.

It is a good piece of art for various reasons. The first of these reasons for me as an Igbo man is the film’s decent attempt to document and portray the timeless Igbo apprenticeship system.

The second reason follows from the first and feeds from the same ethnic sentiment, but this time also because I have myself built a business from scratch, and to a degree, passed the knowledge, network, and perhaps wealth to a few persons. So it did not stop at being a thing of joy to see our method succinctly captured and rousing nostalgic feelings as I watched. The film further made me feel seen and appreciated following Afamefuna’s story from Boi to Oga, and at each step recalling my own steps in the system. From apiriko and oso afia to settlement and taking in a fleet of his own boys, I relived my story from times under the sun and rain in Ikeja Computer Village to the air-conditioned store in Ajah-Lekki Express and a couple of direct and indirect employees.

I, however, did not undergo formal Igbo apprenticeship. Ejechalum school, puta, bido na isi—ejero m boi-boi; awata m business na anya. I went to school, came out, and started from everything beginning—I used gra gra combined with the advantage of education to learn business. So I cannot speak authoritatively to the rudinwnra of the system. But much as I cannot, I think the concern Asoegwu raised is worth looking into. Is it ever done in Igbo apprenticeship that, for whatever reason, a younger apprentice is first settled before an older apprentice when the case of theft isn’t involved?

My piece on Afamefuna does aim for a critical appraisal. To this end, there must be on or two thematic and artistic concerns I must have taken note of, like the subtitle that sometimes watered down the import of the Igbo proverbs, but it isn’t my objective to discuss them today. I only want to express my enjoyment of the film. My wife and I had to pause so many times to either discuss the plot, the actors, and the story or to make reference to our own historical similarities to the acts. And, yes it course, we briefly debated the DNA thing. I will consult my cousins and relatives and associates I know in the apprentice system and see what they have to say about settling a junior apprentice before a senior.

Afamefuna is altogether a nice watch. It is also a good attempt at telling the Igbo story that should be encouraged and further built on. You should see it.

In 2023, Kaspersky’s products (www.Kaspersky.co.za) held the leading position in the TOP3 metric (https://apo-opa.co/3IWatso). During the year, Kaspersky participated in 100 independent tests and reviews, with its products being awarded 93 firsts and 94 TOP3 finishes, achieving the highest result of all years.

The TOP3 metric reflects a vendor’s success in independent comparative tests during the calendar year. This means a company’s technological expertise can be assessed and the quality and effectiveness of its implemented technologies and solutions can be tracked. This approach, based on the aggregation of results from a multitude of respected testing laboratories such as AV-Comparatives, AV-TEST, SE Labs, and others, provides a comprehensive evaluation that goes beyond the outcomes of individual tests, facilitating the identification of the company’s true capabilities, its continuous improvement and innovation.

Regarding consumer solutions, one of Kaspersky’s main achievements is winning the “Product of the Year” (https://apo-opa.co/4aayxn0) award from an independent testing institute AV-Comparatives, breaking a record for the most honoured cybersecurity company in the industry. Kaspersky Standard, the primary plan of the new Kaspersky Consumer Portfolio, was recognised for taking the highest Advanced+ award in all seven tests and demonstrating the best combination of protection, performance and resistance to false positives.

Additionally, Kaspersky Plus for Windows has passed SE Labs’ Endpoint Security: Home 2023 (https://apo-opa.co/4aayFTw) getting the highest Total Accuracy Rating of 100 percent (TOP1) in all four tests of the year. Meanwhile, Kaspersky Safe Kids received AV-Comparatives’ Parental Control Certification (https://apo-opa.co/3Ts1YtC) for blocking at least 98 percent of pornographic websites with zero False Positives on child-friendly websites, and no severe unresolved bugs.

Kaspersky’s solutions also received seven ‘BEST 2023’ annual awards from AV-TEST. In particular, Kaspersky Plus for Mac was recognised as ‘Best MacOS Security 2023 for Consumer Users’ (https://apo-opa.co/43xAHLd) for the first time, with perfect results in the Mac security test over the course of a whole year. Kaspersky Standard, Kaspersky Endpoint Security and Kaspersky Small Office Security won the ‘Advanced Threat Protection 2023’ (https://apo-opa.co/43xAHLd) award for the exceptional protection against APT attacks deploying ransomware and data stealers. Besides these accolades, Kaspersky Standard, Kaspersky Endpoint Security and Kaspersky Small Office Security received the ‘Best Usability 2023’ (https://apo-opa.co/43xAHLd) award for the lowest False Positive rates over the course of an entire test year.

By consistently receiving top ratings and awards from a variety of independent assessments, we reaffirm our dedication to providing comprehensive protection

Kaspersky Standard, Kaspersky Endpoint Security and Kaspersky Small Office Security received the highest score of 6 points in all categories including protection, performance and usability, and the “TOP PRODUCT” award based on the AV-TEST results for Windows antivirus software for home (https://apo-opa.co/3TQoApg) and business (https://apo-opa.co/49bpn8M) users. The testing process includes two defense scenarios with challenging solutions against real-world and common threats, 5 performance measurement scenarios, and assessments for false positives.

As for corporate solutions assessments, Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response Expert (KEDRE) was rewarded by AV-Comparatives’ Endpoint Prevention & Response (EPR) test (https://apo-opa.co/497jcT2) for achieving a 100 percent Active Response cumulative score and gained recognition as “Strategic Leader”. The solution was also awarded with the AV-TEST Approved Advanced Endpoint Detection and Response Certification (https://apo-opa.co/3TCfTxm) for demonstrating impressive coverage and valuable analytics. The study involved a series of red-team attacks that replicated the tactics of Hafnium’s and Lazarus. Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response Expert demonstrated full coverage in Scenario 1 and detected 29 out of 30 techniques in Scenario 2. Additionally, the solution was recognised by SE Labs in the Enterprise Advanced Security (EDR) (https://apo-opa.co/3x5PUa0) test by reaching an absolute Total Accuracy Rating and receiving the highest AAA rating for detecting each of the 16 targeted attacks with no false positives.

Furthermore, Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business and Kaspersky Small Office have received AAA ratings in all four of SE Labs’ Enterprise Endpoint Protection 2023 comparative tests (https://apo-opa.co/3x5PUa0). In addition, both products received TOP1 in 3 out of 4 tests in the Total Accuracy Rating parameter. Another achievement is the Anti-Tampering assessment (https://apo-opa.co/3xdhe6k) by AV-Comparatives, which confirmed that Kaspersky Endpoint Security has the highest resistance to tampering attacks, capable of providing security to a user’s system and data without delays.

“Participation in a wide array of tests throughout the year doesn’t only showcase our commitment to excellence but it also reinforces our confidence that we are meeting the modern requirements of users and businesses alike. By consistently receiving top ratings and awards from a variety of independent assessments, we reaffirm our dedication to providing comprehensive protection. This steadfast focus ensures that we are not just meeting but exceeding the expectations for cybersecurity in today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape,” comments Alexander Liskin, Head of Threat Research at Kaspersky.

In a remarkable revelation, Russia has opened its historical archives to unveil depictions of biblical figures as Africans, challenging long-held perceptions and reshaping narratives in religious history.

Historian Alex Otti, in a recent Facebook post, announced the groundbreaking discovery, stating, “Russia opens its historical vaults to reveal black Biblical Israelites…Icons dating back to the 14th century are all black. The existence and unveiling of these works of art is a powerful testament to the enduring strength of truth.”

The unveiling of these artworks, as Otti emphasized, is a transformative moment, with only 50,000 preserved pieces. Their authenticity compels a reevaluation of historical understanding, particularly regarding the representation of black figures in Christianity. This rediscovery illuminates untold narratives, challenging entrenched assumptions.

The question arises: will these depictions reshape Christianity and prompt a reassessment of its protagonists and narratives? Only time will tell. Some speculate whether this unveiling serves as a strategic move by Vladimir Putin to influence the psychological and theological perspectives of Africans, aligning them with Russia’s interests.

The unveiling of these historical artifacts stands as a testament to the power of reevaluation and the continuous quest for truth in understanding our shared history and religious heritage.

In a fascinating glimpse into the cultural practices of the Igbo people, it has been revealed that same-sex marriage, particularly between two women, is not only permitted but also deeply ingrained in certain traditions. This cultural phenomenon sheds light on the intricate ways in which societal norms intersect with familial obligations and lineage continuity.

In this specific form of marriage, an older widow who has passed menopause takes a younger woman of reproductive age as her spouse. The primary motivation behind such unions is the desire to ensure the continuation of the late husband’s lineage by bearing sons. Prior to entering into this arrangement, the older woman informs the umunna, the traditional council of elders, about her decision, signifying the gravity of her sacrifice.

The umunna, recognizing the significance of this gesture, extends their support and accompanies the widow in seeking the younger woman’s hand in marriage. Once the union is formalized, the widow assumes the role of husband, symbolized by the payment of the bride price, thereby cementing her status within the community.

It is noteworthy that widows often prefer to marry women who have previously borne children, particularly sons, outside of wedlock, as fatherhood in Igbo culture is validated solely through the payment of bride price. Following the marriage, the elderly widow receives special honor and recognition among men, solidifying her esteemed position within the community.

In certain regions of Igbo land, women in such unions are prohibited from engaging in extramarital affairs and are expected to abstain from male companionship for the remainder of their lives. Furthermore, it is imperative to clarify that these marriages are non-sexual in nature, as homosexuality is considered an abomination within Igbo culture.

Interestingly, the younger spouse retains the freedom to engage with men outside of the marriage, and any children born from such encounters are recognized as legitimate heirs to the widow’s late husband, carrying his name forward through generations. This unique cultural practice has played a vital role in preserving and ensuring the continuity of diverse lineages within Igbo society.

After the unauthorized NIN verification incident involving expressverify.com, investigations indicate that a third-party, initially authorized to conduct verification for citizens and legitimate businesses, may have granted expressverify.com access to its NIN verification credentials. The circumstances of this permission are still under investigation.

In response, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has implemented stricter measures, temporarily restricting access to its database. While this action was necessary, it impacted genuine verification requests. However, limited access has been granted to select establishments offering essential public services like education and security after thorough review.

Ongoing investigations aim to uncover how expressverify.com acquired credentials from legitimate third parties and determine the culpability of involved individuals within the bounds of existing laws. Moving forward, NIN verification by licensees will undergo rigorous scrutiny, with only those meeting regulatory compliance standards allowed to proceed.

Additionally, comprehensive training sessions will be conducted to ensure personnel and licensees understand their responsibilities under the Nigeria Data Protection Act, NIMC’s Privacy Policy, and other relevant regulations.

The public is urged to recognize the importance of NIN for sustainable development. While measures are being strengthened to safeguard this data, citizens should remain vigilant when sharing personal information online to prevent identity theft or misuse.
