He further emphasized the establishment of the National Certification Body, which now serves as a beacon for excellence in certifying data protection officers.

Under Dr. Olatunji’s leadership, the NDPC has generated over ₦1.4 billion in revenue, received 4,701 audit reports, and registered 32,888 Data Controllers and Processors of Major Importance. We need to do more to ensure data protection becomes ingrained in our culture and systems,” he said.

Nigeria continues to attract significant international interest as foreign investments in the country have reached an impressive $7.23 billion between January and September 2024. This surge in foreign capital reflects growing confidence in Nigeria’s economic resilience and its potential for long-term growth, despite global challenges.

The data, provided by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), reveals a diverse range of countries showing keen interest in Nigeria’s economy. Among the top investors, the United Kingdom leads the pack with a remarkable contribution of $3.43 billion, making up nearly half of the total investments in the period. This investment surge underscores the enduring ties between the UK and Nigeria, strengthening the economic partnership between the two nations.

South Africa ranks second, investing $1.02 billion, demonstrating a strong commitment to the Nigerian market. With both countries being major economic players on the African continent, this partnership highlights the deepening economic integration within the region.

Other significant contributors include the Netherlands with $781.82 million and Mauritius at $527.95 million. These investments not only reflect confidence in Nigeria’s market but also suggest a growing recognition of the country’s strategic importance as a gateway to the wider African market.

The United States, one of Nigeria’s long-standing trade partners, contributed $334.72 million in investments, reinforcing the robust economic relationship between the two countries. Similarly, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) invested $279.54 million, showing a strong preference for Nigeria’s growing market opportunities.

Smaller but notable contributions came from Cayman Islands ($191.95 million), Saudi Arabia ($175.08 million), Singapore ($104.77 million), and Belgium ($89.81 million), each underscoring Nigeria’s global appeal across different regions.

These foreign investments are crucial for Nigeria’s ongoing economic transformation, supporting sectors such as infrastructure, technology, finance, and manufacturing. The influx of capital from these diverse international sources reflects a shared belief in Nigeria’s potential to become a leading economy in Africa, serving as a hub for investment, innovation, and opportunity.
