Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has commended the remarkable achievements of eight-year-old autistic prodigy Kanyeyachukwu (“Kanye”) Tagbo-Okeke, describing him as a powerful symbol of resilience, creativity, and the limitless potential of children living with developmental conditions.
The young artist, who hails from Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area, visited the Governor at the Government Lodge, Lighthouse, in Awka alongside his parents, Mr. Tagbo-Okeke Kanye and Mrs. Sylvia Tagbo, in what has become a moment of pride not only for Anambra State but for Nigeria and the global autism community.
During the visit, Governor Soludo praised the young boy for transforming the challenges of Autism Spectrum Disorder into a platform for global inspiration, advocacy, and artistic excellence.
According to the governor, Kanye’s story represents the importance of nurturing every child’s unique abilities and building a society where inclusion, empathy, and opportunity are available to all.
“Kanye is an exceptional young autistic artist, a global advocate, and a Guinness World Record holder who is proudly from Amichi, Nnewi South LGA. His story shows that when society provides encouragement and support, extraordinary achievements can emerge from places where the world least expects,” Soludo said.
A Record-Breaking Global Achievement
Kanye first captured global attention on World Autism Awareness Day, April 2, 2025, when he unveiled “Impossibility Is a Myth,” a monumental artwork displayed at Eagle Square in Abuja.
The artwork measured an astonishing 12,303 square metres, surpassing the previous global record of 9,560 square metres, and earning recognition from Guinness World Records.
Even more remarkable was the timeline of the project. While the previous record holder took seven months to complete the artwork, Kanye achieved the feat in just four months, demonstrating exceptional dedication, creativity, and resilience for a child his age.
His achievements have also received international recognition. At just eight years old, he became the youngest Black recipient of the Flame of Peace Award, presented in Vienna, Austria, an honour reserved for individuals whose work promotes peace, human dignity, and social awareness.
Parents’ Pride and Sacrifice
Speaking during the visit, Kanye’s father, Mr. Tagbo-Okeke Kanye, expressed profound gratitude to the Anambra State Government and supporters who have encouraged his son’s journey.
“As parents, we only tried to create a supportive environment for our son. Kanye’s talent and determination continue to amaze us every day. We hope his story will inspire families with autistic children never to lose hope,” he said.
Kanye’s mother, Mrs. Sylvia Tagbo, also reflected on the emotional journey of raising a child with autism and the lessons their family has learned along the way.
“Autism is not a limitation; it is simply a different way of experiencing the world. Our son has shown us that with patience, love, and support, children with autism can achieve extraordinary things. We hope his story will help many families understand that their children’s abilities can shine brightly if given the right encouragement,” she said.
A Journey of Advocacy Across Nigeria
In a further demonstration of his commitment to autism advocacy, Kanye is set to embark on an ambitious 100-mile endurance ride across Anambra State starting on March 17, 2026.
The awareness campaign will begin in Enugu and continue through several communities before concluding in Lagos on April 2, 2026, once again marking World Autism Awareness Day.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about autism, encourage early diagnosis, and promote social acceptance and inclusion for children and families living with the condition.
A Story of Social Impact
Governor Soludo noted that Kanye’s achievements highlight the importance of inclusive education, early support systems, and family dedication in helping children with developmental differences reach their full potential.
“When we raise awareness, we deepen understanding and foster empathy, dignity, and inclusion,” the governor said.
He further stressed that governments, schools, and communities must work together to build environments where every child, regardless of their condition, has access to opportunities that allow their talents to flourish.
Kanye’s story has already begun inspiring educators, policymakers, and disability advocates across Nigeria to rethink how society supports children with autism and other developmental conditions.
