Leading African telecommunications executives have unveiled the Africa Pavilion, a landmark initiative designed to strengthen the continent’s digital voice at the world’s largest gathering of mobile industry stakeholders.
The pavilion was officially inaugurated by Ralph Mupita, Group President and CEO of MTN Group, alongside a coalition of Africa’s top telecom executives known as the G6. The initiative was developed by the group in collaboration with GSMA through its regional platform, GSMA Africa.

Another major focus highlighted by telecom leaders is the development of African-centric Large Language Models (LLMs). According to the executives, building AI systems trained on African languages, cultures, and data is essential for ensuring digital sovereignty, technological independence, and readiness for the global AI era.
The initiative also emphasizes the need for robust digital infrastructure, including high-capacity networks, data centers, and cloud capabilities that can support Africa’s growing digital ecosystem.
Industry leaders said the collaboration between telecom operators aims to move innovative projects beyond small-scale pilot stages and into continent-wide deployment, allowing successful solutions to reach millions of users across Africa.
