Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has concluded the Nordic phase of the Federal Government’s Project BRIDGE Investment Roadshow with high-level engagements in Denmark aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure partnerships and advancing responsible AI collaboration.
The visit to Copenhagen marked the final leg of the Nordic outreach, with the Minister describing Denmark as viewing Nigeria “not merely as a market, but as a strategic partner.”
Strengthening Digital Infrastructure Financing
A key stop during the visit was the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark (EIFO), whose export credit mandate positions it as a potential enabler of Danish private sector participation in Project BRIDGE. EIFO has committed over $1.6 billion across Africa, and its interest in the initiative signals growing international confidence in Nigeria’s long-term digital infrastructure ambitions.
Project BRIDGE is designed to expand broadband connectivity and digital infrastructure nationwide, forming a central pillar of Nigeria’s digital economy strategy.
Further discussions were held with the Investment Fund Denmark (IFDK), which already maintains investments in Nigeria. Talks focused on sustainable and green energy financing—considered a critical complement to digital connectivity expansion, particularly in powering data centres and broadband infrastructure.
AI, Data Strategy and Green Digital Growth
At Digital Hub Denmark, the Minister explored opportunities for collaboration around data centre development, green energy integration, and the strengthening of Nigeria’s national data strategy.
Engagements also extended to CAISA, Denmark’s National Centre for AI in Society. Discussions centered on responsible AI research, policy development, and societal applications—areas Nigeria is prioritizing as it builds governance frameworks for emerging technologies.
Observers say these conversations are particularly significant as countries worldwide grapple with balancing AI innovation and regulation.
Bilateral Talks on Digital Governance and Talent Exchange
The visit concluded with a meeting between Tijani and Denmark’s Acting Minister of Digital Affairs, Christina Egelund. Their discussions covered AI industry support, digital public service adoption, citizen trust in government technology platforms, and cross-border talent collaboration.
A major highlight was the synergy between Denmark’s student exchange ambitions and Nigeria’s 3 Million Technical Talent programme (#3MTT), a flagship digital skills initiative aimed at building a globally competitive tech workforce.
Growing Global Confidence in Nigeria’s Digital Vision
The Nordic phase of the roadshow, according to the Minister, has strengthened international backing for Project BRIDGE while deepening cooperation in digital skills development and responsible AI innovation.
Analysts note that Nigeria’s outreach to Nordic countries—known for their advanced digital governance frameworks and green technology leadership—signals a deliberate strategy to align infrastructure expansion with sustainability and regulatory best practices.
With the Denmark engagements concluded, the Minister indicated that the next phase of the investment roadshow will build on the momentum generated, positioning Nigeria as a major digital economy hub on the African continent.
