Governor on Thursday attended the commissioning of a new market constructed by the in the Bodija area of .
The market, which has been named in honour of Alhaji Chief Sunmaila Aderemi Jimoh, comprises 540 stalls allocated to traders free of charge.
Speaking during the event, Governor Makinde said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to creating structured trading environments while addressing concerns about roadside trading and environmental sanitation.
He noted that the commissioning provided him the opportunity to interact directly with beneficiaries of the newly allocated stalls. According to him, the government’s approach prioritises providing viable alternatives for traders operating on roadsides before enforcing environmental regulations.
“Our goal is to ensure that roadside traders are given alternatives before we start enforcing the relevant environmental laws,” the governor stated during his engagement with the traders.
The new market is expected to ease congestion in surrounding areas and improve compliance with environmental and urban planning regulations within the local government.
