The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the privacy rights of Nigerians through proactive public engagement and awareness initiatives.
As part of activities marking National Privacy Week, the National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, led a vibrant data protection awareness roadshow in Abuja. The event brought together NDPC staff, representatives of various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and key stakeholders within the digital privacy ecosystem.
The roadshow, which attracted over 200 participants, commenced at Eagles Square in the Federal Secretariat, moved through Unity Fountain in Maitama, and returned to Eagles Square. It served as an interactive platform to connect directly with the public and promote a shared understanding of data protection and privacy rights in Nigeria’s evolving digital landscape.
Through this initiative, the Commission demonstrated its people-centred approach to regulation by taking the conversation on privacy beyond offices and policy documents and into the streets. The NDPC emphasized that sustained awareness, collaboration, and education are essential to building trust in digital services and empowering citizens to take ownership of their personal data.
The Commission reaffirmed its dedication to strengthening stakeholder partnerships, promoting responsible data handling practices, and nurturing a strong culture of privacy that supports innovation, accountability, and confidence in Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
