A high-level Nigerian delegation, led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, attended the prestigious Airline Economics Growth Frontiers Global Conference in Dublin yesterday, engaging with global aviation leaders to advance the country’s airline industry.
The delegation included top executives from Nigeria’s leading airlines, including Mrs. Toyin Olajide (Air Peace), Dr. Obiora Okonkwo (United Nigeria Airlines), Mr. George Urensi (Ibom Air), Abdullahi Ahmed (NG Eagle), Kunle Soname and Capt. Omololu Majekodunmi (ValueJet), as well as key government officials such as NCAA Director General Capt. Chris Ona Najomo and Mr. Ahmed Tijani, Director of Air Transport Management at the Ministry.
On the sidelines of the conference, the delegation held a strategic meeting with AerCap, the world’s largest aircraft leasing company, led by CEO Mr. Angus Kelly. Discussions focused on establishing long-term partnerships aligned with Nigeria’s fleet modernization goals, exploring innovative leasing options, flexible financing, and practical pathways for fleet renewal. Officials emphasized that these measures are vital for improving operational efficiency, enhancing safety, reducing costs, and positioning Nigerian carriers for competitive growth regionally and globally.
The delegation also engaged with Afreximbank, represented by Executive Vice President Ms. Kanayo Awani and Director & Global Head Ms. Helen Brume, to strengthen aviation finance partnerships. The discussions centered on leveraging Afreximbank’s financial instruments and risk-mitigation solutions to support Nigerian and African carriers, with a shared commitment to fleet development, airline sustainability, and long-term industry growth.
The Minister affirmed that consultations will continue, highlighting a collaborative government–industry approach aimed at placing aviation at the center of Nigeria’s economic growth and regional trade integration.
