Nigerian author and Finland-based cultural advocate, Hope Obiageli Nwosu, has participated in the Akwa-Cross Cultural Exhibition, Food Fair and Award Night, an event that celebrated the rich cultural heritage of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States of Nigeria.
The event, held last Saturday, brought together community leaders, professionals, and cultural stakeholders in Finland, and featured exhibitions, discussions, and recognitions highlighting the contributions of immigrants to Finnish society.
Nwosu, who resides in Finland with her family, attended the event alongside her colleague, Petra Anna-Maria Pulli, representing Vantaan Osaamiskeskus ja Kotoutumisen palvelut (Vantaa Skills Center and Integration Services).
In her keynote address, Pulli, a Senior Employment Specialist at Vantaa Employment Services, reaffirmed the City of Vantaa’s commitment to supporting the integration of immigrants from diverse backgrounds. Drawing from her personal experience of having lived in five different countries, she encouraged immigrants to remain committed to their dreams and aspirations.
The programme also featured a panel discussion themed “The Power of Network: Building Social Capital for Career Success,” which explored how immigrants can build trust and establish mutually beneficial professional networks in Finland. Panelists included Elvis Fuamba, Marii Juht, Kingsley Ify, Terry Mac-Tay, and Hope Obiageli Nwosu, with the session moderated by Deborah Kwafo.
In another highlight of the event, Emma Tamankag of HEED Finland delivered a presentation on the importance of proper nutrition and regular exercise for maintaining physical and mental wellbeing.
The event concluded with an award ceremony recognising individuals for their outstanding contributions to Finnish society across various sectors. Hope Nwosu was among the award recipients honoured for her impact and service.
Organisers of the event, Akwa Cross Community in Finland ry, received commendation for the successful outing, with special appreciation extended to the group’s president, Ime B. Isua-Ikoh, Prince of Bakassi, for his leadership in convening the cultural celebration.
The Akwa-Cross Cultural Exhibition further reinforced the role of culture, dialogue, and community engagement in strengthening integration and mutual understanding within Finland’s multicultural society.
