The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has briefed the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, as the Agency moves into full implementation mode for its 2026 initiatives.
The briefing, held at the beginning of the year, was led by NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, and focused on the Agency’s renewed commitment to driving Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda with fresh energy and strategic clarity.
During the session, NITDA provided a strategic overview of its evolution since its establishment in 2001 and reaffirmed its alignment with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This alignment, the Agency noted, is being advanced through its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan 2024–2027 (SRAP 2.0), which is built around eight strategic pillars designed to foster inclusive economic growth and accelerate national digital transformation.
The briefing highlighted several key performance milestones recorded by the Agency. These include significant progress in digital literacy and talent development through initiatives such as the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, improvements in Nigeria’s global artificial intelligence ranking from 85th to 69th, and the completion of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
Updates were also provided on policy and regulatory interventions aimed at strengthening the digital economy. These covered developments in cloud sovereignty, data localisation, e-invoicing, and enhanced cybersecurity collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser. The Agency further reported the launch of the National Digital Trust Map Portal and ongoing implementation of the Nigerian Startup Act through startup labelling and targeted ecosystem support.
Operational and financial matters formed a critical part of the engagement, with NITDA confirming compliance with all statutory and fiscal obligations, as well as continuous reporting to relevant oversight bodies.
The briefing underscored NITDA’s readiness to deepen execution in 2026 while maintaining accountability, policy coherence, and strategic alignment with national development priorities.
