Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has described 2026 as a pivotal year for Oyo State and Nigeria, calling for sustained prayers and support from the Christian community as his administration approaches the final phase of its tenure.
The governor made this call on Sunday while attending a thanksgiving service at Victory International Church, Elebu, alongside Bishop Taiwo Adelakun and his family.
Speaking during the service, Makinde noted that the remaining period of his administration would be focused on consolidating the gains of the Omituntun agenda, stressing that the vision of good governance would outlive his tenure.
“2026 is a pivotal year for Oyo State and indeed Nigeria, and as an administration, we covet the prayers and support of the church as we approach the end of our tenure in office,” the governor said.
While acknowledging that his tenure as governor will end next year, Makinde assured the congregation that the reforms and values his government has entrenched would endure beyond his time in office.
“While my own tenure as governor will end next year, Omituntun will continue in our dear state,” he declared.
Addressing infrastructure concerns raised by residents in the Elebu axis, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to road rehabilitation in the area, specifically the BCJ–Railway–Gbekuba–NIHORT Junction corridor, which has been a source of concern for commuters and residents.
“I assured our people in Elebu and those residing around the BCJ–Railway–Gbekuba–NIHORT Junction that both roads will be fixed before the end of our tenure, in fulfilment of my promise to them,” Makinde stated.
The assurance comes amid growing public attention on the completion of legacy projects as the Makinde administration enters its final stretch, with infrastructure delivery remaining a key benchmark for its people-centred governance agenda.
