The Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) on Tuesday hosted Her Excellency Sahle-Work Zewde, former President of Ethiopia, at a high-level engagement focused on advancing women’s empowerment across Africa.

The meeting was hosted by TEF Co-Founder, Dr. Awele Elumelu, O.F.R., with the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Somachi Chris-Asoluka, in attendance. Also present was Kemi Ajumobi, Founder and Group CEO of Inspiring Woman Africa (IWA) Group.

Discussions centred on strengthening opportunities for African women and reinforcing their role in the continent’s economic transformation—a cause long championed by Sahle-Work Zewde and a core pillar of the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s mission.

Through its flagship TEF Entrepreneurship Programme, the Foundation has empowered more than 24,000 entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries, with women accounting for 48 per cent of beneficiaries.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equity and entrepreneurship, describing them as critical drivers of sustainable development and inclusive growth across Africa.
