Nigerian activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has sharply criticized the United Nations, describing the global body as ineffective and irrelevant in addressing international crises.
In a statement posted on his social media account, Sowore reacted to what he described as an illegal regime-change agenda by former U.S. President Donald Trump in Venezuela, as well as the alleged abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife. He argued that these events highlight the UN’s inability to prevent unilateral aggression, war crimes, and abuses of power.
According to Sowore, the organization has “devolved into a ceremonial tea party,” claiming it is compromised and structurally incapable of fulfilling its mandate. He said the UN’s failure to restrain powerful world leaders demonstrates what he called a deep and incurable institutional decay.
Sowore further asserted that any international body unable to protect humanity from the ambitions of a single dominant leader has lost its legitimacy. He concluded by calling for the dissolution of the United Nations and its replacement with a new coalition of nation-states that he said would be more credible, justice-oriented, and committed to preventing tyranny rather than enabling it.
