Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has intensified its engagement with key national and international stakeholders as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s space, security, and digital innovation ecosystem.
During the week under review, NIGCOMSAT, under the leadership of its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Jane Egerton-Idehen, held strategic discussions with senior figures in Nigeria’s space and defence sectors. High-level engagements included meetings with the Chief of Defence Space Administration, Major General Phillip Illodibia, and the Director-General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Dr. Matthew Adepoju. These discussions focused on advancing collaboration in satellite technology, national security, and space infrastructure development.
The week also featured a courtesy visit by His Royal Highness, Chief Tanko Bahago of the Piwoyi Palace, reflecting NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to inclusive stakeholder engagement and social impact.
Further reinforcing the company’s strategic role, Jane Egerton-Idehen delivered a keynote address at the National Defence College Nigeria, where she underscored NIGCOMSAT’s growing contribution to Nigeria’s space and security architecture, particularly in enhancing communication resilience, surveillance capabilities, and national defence readiness.
Momentum continued at the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) National Impact Summit, hosted by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy under the leadership of Honourable Minister Dr. Bosun Tijani. The summit, which focused on building Nigeria’s digital talent pipeline, was attended by top government officials and industry leaders. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) was represented by Senator George Akume, who served as the Special Guest of Honour.
Distinguished participants included Honourable Stanley Adedeji, Senator Shaibu Salisu, and key players from the digital and telecommunications industry, such as Dinesh Balsingh, Managing Director/CEO of Airtel Nigeria; Mohamad Darwish, Vice President of IHS Nigeria; and representatives from MTN Nigeria, Google, Moniepoint Group, IHS Nigeria, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
In addition, NIGCOMSAT hosted a delegation from the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP), led by Dr. Olajumoke Koyejo (MBChB, MPH, MBA, ICAP, FMCPsych). The visit highlighted the organization’s interest in leveraging satellite-enabled communication and data solutions to support public health and social development initiatives.
These engagements collectively underscore NIGCOMSAT’s expanding influence at the intersection of space technology, national security, digital innovation, and social impact, positioning the organization as a critical enabler of Nigeria’s development agenda.
