The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially confirmed a structured security and intelligence cooperation agreement with the United States, which has already facilitated precision airstrikes against terrorist enclaves in Nigeria’s North West region.

In a statement released today, the Ministry detailed that the partnership is built on the exchange of critical intelligence, strategic operational coordination, and direct support. It stressed that all activities are conducted in strict compliance with international law, existing bilateral agreements, and with full respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“The cooperation is structured and executed with the utmost regard for legal frameworks and the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read. It further emphasized that all counter-terrorism operations under this arrangement are designed to “prioritize the protection of civilian lives, safeguard national unity, and uphold the rights and dignity of all citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity.”

The Ministry issued a strong condemnation of terrorist violence, framing it as an attack on the nation’s core values. “The Federal Government condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist violence targeting communities—whether Christian, Muslim, or other faiths. This brutality is a direct affront to our national values and a threat to international peace and security.”

Reaffirming its strategic direction, the government stated its commitment to deepening collaboration with international partners to “weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, prevent cross-border incursions, and strengthen the capacity of Nigeria’s security institutions and intelligence capabilities.”

The Ministry concluded by pledging to maintain ongoing engagement with relevant partners and to keep the Nigerian public informed of significant developments through official government channels. This announcement marks a significant public acknowledgment of the operational depth of Nigeria’s international security alliances in its ongoing fight against terrorism.
