Paul Orajiaka, Founder of Auldon Group, has successfully completed his Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) at Henley Business School, marking the culmination of a decade-long journey of study, research, and dedication. The achievement was formally recognized by the school’s internal and external examiners following his doctorate viva.
Orajiaka described the journey as “a thousand-mile path” that required passion, commitment, and steadfastness. His academic pursuit began in October 2014, spanning a two-year Master of Science program, a three-year Master of Public Administration (MPA) at Harvard Kennedy School, and finally returning to Henley for the DBA phase.
Reflecting on his doctoral experience, Orajiaka noted the intensity of research and supervision involved, particularly in developing a thesis focused on the moderating influence of the external business environment on the performance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). “Small and medium enterprises are the bedrock of all emerging economies,” he said. His work explored how Nigerian SMEs can thrive despite a complex, hostile, and dynamic business environment.
Orajiaka credited his success to his supervisors—Shaheena Janjuha-Jivraj, PhD, FRSA, Dr. Liza Castro Christiansen, and Anastasiya Saraeva—whose guidance ensured that his research met Henley’s rigorous academic standards.
He also reflected on the personal discipline required to complete the doctorate, citing sleepless nights and long hours of literature review. “When our hearts are set on pursuits that truly light them up, they illuminate through every darkness,” he said. “When our pursuits are pure and our aim genuine, no obstacle stands in its way.”
Orajiaka’s achievement not only adds to his academic credentials but also underscores his commitment to fostering the growth and resilience of SMEs in Nigeria, a sector he believes is critical for national economic development.
