Moniepoint Inc. Co-founder and Group CEO Tosin Eniolorunda offered an in-depth look at his leadership journey during a fireside conversation with Dr. Dotun Olowoporoku at the recently concluded Africa Prosperity Summit.
The session opened with a central question many technical founders confront: How does one transition from writing code to leading a company? Eniolorunda described the shift as both “humbling and clarifying,” saying his ability to alternate between broad strategic thinking and meticulous attention to detail has become one of his key strengths. This dual focus, he noted, is essential for steering a rapidly scaling organisation.
He outlined the significant adjustment required in moving from engineering to executive leadership. While software development provides immediate feedback—code works or it doesn’t—leading people demands decisions made with incomplete information, deeper trust in teams, and the creation of systems designed to endure beyond individual oversight. These challenges, he said, sparked personal and professional growth that technical work alone had never required.
A major part of his evolution, Eniolorunda added, has been learning that scaling a company hinges less on adding features or customers and more on scaling judgment. Effective leadership, he explained, involves empowering specialists, building high-performing teams, and investing heavily in culture, alignment, and communication. Embracing this shift—especially the discomfort of letting go—has been crucial to building a sustainable enterprise.
Reflecting on his path from builder to CEO, Eniolorunda described it as a journey marked by continuous adjustment: knowing when to step in, when to step back, and how to foster long-term impact. He said the same curiosity that once fueled his drive to write code now guides his focus on people, systems, and organisational longevity.
