The National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has reaffirmed Nigeria’s potential to lead the global digital economy, citing the country’s youthful and tech-savvy population as a vital force for transformation.
Dr. Olatunji made the remarks while delivering a goodwill message on behalf of CEOs and heads of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy at the Digital Nigeria International Conference 2025, organized by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
Themed “Innovation for a Sustainable Digital Future,” the annual conference drew key stakeholders from government, industry, and academia. The Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima (GCON), attended as Special Guest of Honour, while the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, delivered the keynote address.
In his message, Dr. Olatunji commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for his unwavering commitment to advancing Nigeria’s economy through digital technology. He noted that all eight of the administration’s national priority areas are being powered by innovation, and praised the President for signing the Nigeria Data Protection Act into law just two weeks after assuming office.
He further lauded NITDA Director-General, Mr. Kashifu Inuwa, for successfully convening industry leaders and digital innovators, describing the conference as a catalyst for collaboration and policy alignment in Nigeria’s digital transformation journey.
Dr. Olatunji emphasized that Nigeria’s digital progress depends on strong collaboration across government, private sector, and development partners, highlighting that data protection, innovation, and digital inclusion are key pillars for sustainable growth.
Among dignitaries present were the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Suzuki Hideo; Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida; Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju; and President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Oguntala, alongside other stakeholders in the nation’s digital ecosystem.
