Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has been honoured with the 2025 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) Excellence Award, newly renamed the Herbert Wigwe Award for Excellence.
The award was presented to the governor at the Government House, Enugu, by Chioma Ude, Founder and CEO of the Africa Foundation for the Development of Motion Pictures, Arts and Culture (AFDMAC), alongside Nollywood actor Williams Uchembah, who had earlier represented the governor at the AFRIFF ceremony.
Speaking after receiving the award, Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to AFRIFF and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to repositioning Enugu as the original home of Nollywood and a leading destination for film production, arts, and culture in Africa.
“This recognition strengthens our resolve to continue providing the infrastructure and environment needed for the creative industry, arts, and culture to thrive, and to ensure the full return of Nollywood right here in Enugu, its original home,” the governor said.
He noted that the creative sector remains a key pillar in his administration’s ambitious plan to grow Enugu State’s economy sevenfold, emphasizing ongoing investments in infrastructure, security, and business-friendly policies aimed at making the state attractive for filmmakers, investors, and tourists.
“We expect the creative industry to contribute massively to this growth. This award challenges us not to rest on our laurels, but to do even more. And that is exactly what we will do,” he added.
Governor Mbah reiterated his administration’s vision of transforming Enugu into a modern, secure, and economically vibrant state, declaring confidently, “Tomorrow is here!”
