The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has reinforced its drive to build a strong data privacy culture in the country by participating in two major events in Kano State aimed at deepening awareness and compliance with data protection regulations.
At the Kano Social Influencers Summit (KANSIS), Mr. Abdulmalik Jamoh of the Commission’s Information Technology and Cybersecurity Department delivered the first plenary speech titled “Striking a Balance between Data Needs for AI Training and Data Privacy.” His presentation highlighted the importance of responsible innovation in the digital age and engaged policymakers, technology experts, and digital rights advocates on the need for secure and inclusive data practices.
Mr. Jamoh also represented the Commission at the Cyber Security Innovation Summit held at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN). During the visit, he met with the institution’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, where discussions focused on potential partnerships, including the creation of a student-led “Privacy Club” to drive data protection awareness within tertiary institutions.
The NDPC’s engagements in Kano reflect its sustained commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s cyber ecosystem through strategic dialogue and educational initiatives, further securing the nation’s digital future.
