Nigeria has taken another major step toward digital transformation and industrial self-reliance with the formal commissioning of Africa’s largest fibre optic cable factory, established by Coleman Technical Industries Limited (CTIL). The launch coincides with the company’s 50th anniversary, marking five decades of excellence in cable manufacturing.
The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, described the occasion as a defining moment in Nigeria’s journey toward shared prosperity and technological advancement.
“At a time when we are deploying 90,000 kilometres of fibre optic cable across the country through Project BRIDGE, having a local manufacturer capable of producing this critical infrastructure is a truly significant milestone,” he said. “The timing could not be more perfect.”
The new facility is expected to bolster Nigeria’s broadband rollout, support nationwide digital connectivity, and position the country as a key supplier for telecom infrastructure across Africa.
Dr. Tijani commended the leadership and workforce of Coleman Cables for their commitment to national development, noting that the factory will not only meet domestic demand but also serve as a continental production hub.
He also acknowledged Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for creating an investor-friendly environment that continues to attract major industrial projects to the state.
Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for his reform agenda and $1 trillion economy target, the minister stated:
“A new Nigeria is emerging — one being built by those who believe in her potential, invest in her people, and produce proudly within her borders.”
