The Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the 12.2-kilometre Trans-Kalabari Road project, describing it as a key infrastructure initiative aimed at improving connectivity and promoting economic growth across riverine communities in the state.
The governor made the remarks during an inspection visit to key sections of the project on Tuesday, where he assessed construction progress alongside officials of the Rivers State Ministry of Works and representatives of the contractor, Lubrik Construction Company.
According to Governor Fubara, the project, which features four major river-crossing bridges and multiple pile-supported decks, is advancing steadily with encouraging engineering quality. He commended the construction team for maintaining high standards and adherence to specifications despite the challenging terrain.
“We visited key sections of the 12.2km Trans-Kalabari Road. The quality of work by Lubrik Construction is encouraging, and steady progress is being made,” Fubara said.
“This project reflects our commitment to durable infrastructure and improved connectivity between communities in our beloved Rivers State.”
Strategic Importance of the Trans-Kalabari Road
The Trans-Kalabari Road, one of Rivers State’s flagship infrastructure projects, is designed to link several riverine communities in the Kalabari axis — including Buguma, Bakana, Tombia, and Abonnema — to the mainland.
When completed, the road will significantly reduce travel time, boost trade and commerce, improve access to healthcare and education, and open up new economic opportunities for residents of the Kalabari Kingdom and surrounding areas.
The project is also expected to enhance security and logistics, providing easier movement of goods and services across communities that have long depended on water transport.

Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s resolve to continue prioritizing infrastructure projects that unite communities and support long-term economic sustainability. He said the Trans-Kalabari Road exemplifies his vision of equitable development across all parts of the state.
“Every part of Rivers State deserves access to quality infrastructure,” the governor said. “Through projects like this, we are building bridges — both literally and figuratively — to connect our people and empower communities.”
The inspection visit underscores the government’s ongoing monitoring efforts to ensure timely delivery of major projects under the Rivers State Infrastructure Renewal Programme, which also includes roads, bridges, and drainage systems across both urban and rural areas.
