Airtel Nigeria and UNICEF: Strengthening a Transformative Partnership for Education

In a powerful reaffirmation of their shared commitment to advancing access to quality education in Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria hosted a high-level delegation from the United Nations Childrenโ€™s Fund (UNICEF) at its Banana Island Headquarters in Lagos. The courtesy visit and strategic meeting centered on deepening collaboration under the Reimagine Education Programme, a joint initiative designed to empower millions of Nigerian children through digital learning.

The UNICEF team, led by Country Representative, Ms. Wafaa Saeed, and Chief of Lagos Office, Ms. Celine Lafoucriere, engaged with the Airtel Nigeria leadership, represented by Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Dinesh Balsingh, and Director of Corporate Communications and CSR, Mr. Femi Adeniran.

A Shared Vision for Impact

In his remarks, Mr. Balsingh underscored Airtelโ€™s unwavering commitment to driving social impact through education, technology, and inclusion.

โ€œEducation is the pillar on which we rally our CSR,โ€ he said. โ€œWe have had a good journey with UNICEF โ€” not only in Nigeria but across all markets where Airtel Africa operates. Together, we are changing lives through connectivity and learning.โ€

The UNICEF Country Representative, Ms. Saeed, praised the enduring partnership and commended Airtelโ€™s leadership in leveraging digital innovation to expand educational opportunities for underserved communities.

โ€œPeople with lesser opportunities are in those areas,โ€ she noted. โ€œThrough our partnership, we are ensuring that no child is left behind โ€” regardless of geography, gender, or background.โ€

Progress Through Collaboration

Mr. Femi Adeniran, Director of Corporate Communications and CSR at Airtel Nigeria, reaffirmed the companyโ€™s enthusiasm about the progress of the Reimagine Education initiative.

โ€œWe are proud of what we have achieved together,โ€ he said. โ€œThe project is on track to reach the one million learners milestone in just a few months โ€” a clear testament to the power of strategic collaboration between the private sector and development partners.โ€

Also in attendance were Mr. Babagana Aminu, Education Specialist; Ms. Ochuko Ege, Partnership Specialist; Mr. Bharat Kundra, GenU Specialist; and Ms. Blessing Ejiofor, Communications Officer โ€” all part of the UNICEF leadership team that continues to drive educational transformation across Nigeria.

A Future of Possibilities

The meeting reaffirmed both organizationsโ€™ shared purpose: to empower every Nigerian child with the tools, skills, and access needed to learn, connect, and thrive in the digital age.

As Airtel Nigeria and UNICEF continue to build on their partnership, their joint efforts are helping redefine education โ€” from classrooms to communities โ€” unlocking potential and transforming futures, one learner at a time.
