โIt has been an amazing day in honour of a man โ and a giant, literally and figuratively.โ
Those were the poignant words of Stephen Tio Kauma, Managing Director of Human Resources and Chairperson of the Transition Committee at Afreximbank, as he paid tribute to Professor Benedict Oramah during a deeply moving farewell ceremony held in his honour.
Mr. Kaumaโs remarks captured both the personal and institutional significance of the occasion โ a celebration of a leader whose vision, integrity, and unwavering commitment have shaped Afreximbankโs modern era.
Reflecting on his 17 years of close collaboration with Prof. Oramah, Mr. Kauma described the moment as profoundly meaningful:
โHaving had the honour of working with Prof. Oramah for the last 17 years, it is particularly meaningful to me that I have been Chairperson of the Organising Committee for all the events related to the Bankโs transition.โ
He went on to praise Prof. Oramahโs extraordinary leadership, noting that under his stewardship, Afreximbank evolved into a globally respected financial institution โ one that embodies African pride, resilience, and innovation.
Through visionary strategies, transformative programs, and an unshakeable belief in Africaโs potential, Prof. Oramah led the Bank to new heights, strengthening its role as a catalyst for continental trade, industrialization, and integration.
As Afreximbank transitions into a new chapter under the leadership of Dr. George Elombi, Mr. Kauma reaffirmed the Bankโs collective commitment to preserving and expanding upon this remarkable legacy.
โOur mission remains clear โ to build on the solid foundation laid by Prof. Oramah and continue advancing Africaโs trade, integration, and sustainable development,โ he emphasized.
The ceremony not only marked the close of an era but also the continuation of a journey โ one defined by excellence, service, and a steadfast belief in Africaโs boundless promise.
