Governor Hope Uzodimma has unveiled plans to institutionalize the SkillUp Imo Initiative through the establishment of a new tertiary institution dedicated to digital education and innovation.
The governor made the announcement after receiving the certificate of approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the establishment of the University of Innovation, Science and Technology, Omuma, in Imo State.
According to Governor Uzodimma, the new university will serve as a strategic platform to sustain and expand the successes of the SkillUp Imo Initiative, which has already trained more than 50,000 young people in various digital and technological skills.
He explained that the institution’s primary focus will be on producing graduates who are not only employable but also capable of becoming entrepreneurs, innovators, and globally competitive professionals in the digital economy.
“The establishment of this university marks a major milestone in our vision to empower Imo youth and position the state as a hub for technological advancement,” Uzodimma stated.
The University of Innovation, Science and Technology is expected to become a center for technology-driven learning and research, reinforcing Imo State’s leadership in digital transformation and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
