The Rivers State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has approved a series of strategic projects aimed at strengthening environmental resilience, protecting coastal communities, and modernizing government infrastructure across the State.
At the Council meeting held on October 16, 2025, Governor Fubara presided over deliberations that led to the revalidation and approval of several transformative initiatives. Among them is the revalidation of a 4.8-kilometre reinforced concrete shoreline protection and reclamation project at Queens Town, Epellema–Iloma–Minima in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area. This project, once completed, will provide a permanent safeguard for vulnerable coastal communities constantly threatened by erosion, tidal flooding, and land loss, while also protecting farmlands and residential areas that sustain local livelihoods.
In addition, the Council approved the construction of a 2.5-kilometre shoreline protection and reclamation project in Ndoni, Oniukwu, Isuikwu, and Ase-Azaga communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area. A similar 2.5-kilometre project was also approved for Utuechi, Obiofu, Isala, Ani Eze, and Odugiri communities within the same local government. These projects are designed to strengthen the region’s environmental defences, preserve natural habitats, and create job opportunities for local residents during their implementation.
The Council further approved the renovation, retrofitting, and furnishing of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt. This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to modernizing the public service infrastructure, creating a safer, more efficient, and technologically advanced working environment for civil servants.
Following the Council meeting, Governor Fubara also held a consultative session with Traditional Rulers from across the State. During the meeting, he expressed deep appreciation for their consistent prayers, counsel, and support, particularly during challenging times. The Governor described them as the custodians of the State’s culture, unity, and stability, assuring them of his administration’s continued partnership in the pursuit of peace and progress.
These approvals reflect the Fubara administration’s strategic focus on protecting communities from climate-induced risks, improving living standards, and promoting sustainable development. By investing in shoreline protection, the government is not only defending communities against erosion and flooding but also preserving farmlands and economic activities that sustain thousands of families.
Governor Fubara’s decision to prioritize the renovation of the State Secretariat further signals a deliberate effort to strengthen institutional capacity and improve service delivery. Together, these actions reaffirm the administration’s vision of building a resilient, prosperous, and inclusive Rivers State where development reaches every community and governance reflects the people’s aspirations.
