Inikpi Amodu Champions Youth Creativity at African Knitwear Summit 2025

Lawyer and Programs Lead at UNESCO Youth of Dialogue (YOD), Inikpi Amodu, took center stage as the host of the African Knitwear Summit 2025 Fashion Runway, an event celebrating the continent’s growing influence in sustainable and creative fashion.

Speaking after the show, Amodu reflected on Africa’s boundless creativity, emphasizing that while talent abounds, the real challenge lies in creating opportunities for young designers to thrive.

“Standing on that stage, engaging with knitwear talents, fashion lovers, and young designers reminded me that Africa is bursting with creativity,” she said. “I met designers who began knitting as children and teenagers who turned their passion into artistry. These are stories of resilience, discipline, and raw brilliance that deserve global attention.”

Amodu called for greater investment in youth innovation, noting that with the right platforms and support, young African creatives can move from local recognition to global domination.

“Talent is never the problem—opportunity is,” she added. “If we keep empowering and encouraging young voices, the sky will only be our starting point.”

The summit, supported by UNESCO YOD and the United Nations Youth Office, brought together fashion innovators, cultural advocates, and youth leaders to explore ways of scaling African knitwear to international markets.

Amodu concluded with a challenge to policymakers, organizations, and investors:

“How can Africa create more global opportunities for its youth?”
