Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara of Rivers State has issued a stern directive to the contractor handling the 6.5-kilometre Woji–Aleto–Alesa–Refinery Road project, emphasizing the need for immediate and significant improvement in the pace of work.
During an inspection visit to the project site, which includes a 200-metre bridge component, the Governor expressed dissatisfaction with the contractor’s performance, describing it as below expectations despite what he termed adequate funding from the State Government.
Governor Fubara noted that the project, which is strategically important for easing vehicular movement and boosting economic activities within the region, has suffered undue delays. He consequently directed the contractor to ensure full completion within one month or face appropriate disciplinary and contractual actions from the state authorities.
In a decisive move aimed at maintaining project integrity and environmental safety, the Governor also ordered an immediate halt to dredging activities around the bridge area pending further assessment and compliance verification.
“Our administration remains firmly committed to delivering quality infrastructure that truly serves the people of Rivers State,” Fubara reaffirmed, underscoring his government’s determination to ensure that every public works project meets high standards of execution and transparency.
The Woji–Aleto–Alesa–Refinery Road project, when completed, is expected to improve connectivity between several key communities and industrial areas within the state, enhance economic growth, and reduce travel time for commuters.
This latest inspection visit forms part of the Fubara administration’s ongoing infrastructure accountability drive, which seeks to ensure that contractors deliver projects on schedule and in accordance with agreed specifications.
