Airtel Africa has officially unveiled the Airtel Africa Foundation (AAF), a continent-wide philanthropic initiative aimed at transforming 10 million lives across Africa by the year 2030 through targeted interventions in Financial Inclusion, Education, Environmental Protection, and Digital Inclusion (FEED).
The formal introduction took place at a world press conference held in Lagos, marking a new milestone in Airtel Africa’s commitment to social impact and sustainable development.
Launched in July 2024, the Foundation operates under the guidance of an independent board and functions across the 14 countries where Airtel Africa currently has operations.
In less than a year since its inception, the Foundation has already begun implementing impactful programmes across several countries.
In Nigeria, 100 new scholarships have been awarded, while selected schools are being adopted and upgraded. Classrooms are also undergoing digital transformation, with teachers receiving training in information technology skills.
Beyond education, AAF is piloting community tech hubs in Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and advancing partnerships such as the $57 million UNICEF programme, which is helping thousands of young people acquire vital digital and entrepreneurial skills for the future.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, Chairman of the Airtel Africa Foundation, reaffirmed the organisation’s mission to serve as a catalyst for self-driven transformation across communities.
“We are empowering lives. We are touching lives. Enough for them to make the transformation themselves, with AAF as the catalyst,” he said.
The Airtel Africa Foundation, according to the company, represents a long-term investment in people, education, and the digital future of Africa.
