The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a state-of-the-art ICT Community Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State. The centre, facilitated by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), is part of ongoing efforts to drive digital literacy and technological empowerment across the country.
Named in honour of Mrs. Onikepo Akande, a distinguished daughter of Oyo State, the facility is designed to offer ICT training programmes with a focus on women and young people. The initiative aims to equip participants with digital skills that will enhance their competitiveness in the growing tech ecosystem.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde, and other top government officials and dignitaries.
The development of the centre is in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to empowering Nigeria’s youthful population and positioning the nation as a hub for technological innovation on the global stage. Similar ICT centres are expected to be established in various communities nationwide as part of this broader digital inclusion agenda.
