In a deeply moving and thought-provoking sermon on Sunday, Rev. Fred Obetoh challenged his congregation with a crucial question: “Where do you belong?” His message, based on Joshua 24:14-15, urged believers to examine their spiritual allegiance, emphasizing that neutrality has no place in the Kingdom of God.

“If you’re neither here nor there, you don’t belong anywhere,” he declared, urging Christians to take a firm stand in their faith. “Choose today whom you will serve. Are you on the Lord’s side?”

A Call to True Commitment

Rev. Obetoh emphasized that being a Christian is not just about attendance or association but about a deep, unwavering commitment to God. Citing 1 Corinthians 6:17, he reminded the congregation that “He that is joined to the Lord is of one spirit.” He warned against being distracted by the faults of others, stating that when one’s eyes are truly focused on God, they will not dwell on the shortcomings of those around them.

He further expounded on Romans 8:14-17, affirming that those who are led by the Spirit of God are His true children. “Your sense of belonging reveals your true identity. You must belong somewhere—there is no neutral ground in the spiritual journey,” he said, referencing Revelation 3:15, which warns against lukewarm faith.

Following Christ Wholeheartedly

Rev. Obetoh drew parallels between God’s unwavering claim over the Israelites (Exodus 3:7-9) and the call of Jesus to His disciples, stressing that true blessings come from following the Master. “Jesus called His disciples to follow Him, and in that obedience, they found purpose and reward,” he said.

Reflecting on the Acts 2:42-46 account of the early church, he urged believers to cultivate a strong sense of unity and belonging within the body of Christ. “The early Christians shared everything, worshipped together, and stood firm in their faith. Their example teaches us what true devotion looks like.”

God’s Work Needs Laborers

Rev. Obetoh reminded the congregation that God is actively seeking laborers for His kingdom. “The harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few. Jesus needs people who are ready to work for Him,” he proclaimed. But he assured them that God never abandons those who choose Him. “You can’t choose God and be forsaken. When you commit yourself fully, He will guide and sustain you.”

Encouraging everyone to embrace their calling, he reaffirmed Jesus’ promise that “God will build His church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

A Prayer of Liberation and Blessing

Rev. Obetoh concluded the service with a powerful prayer of deliverance, speaking faith and victory over the lives of his listeners:

“Whatever evil has been done against you, I cancel it with the blood of Jesus. You are freed in Jesus’ name!”
