NDPC Unveils Annual Report, Journal at National Privacy Week Press Conference

 The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) kicked off the National Privacy Week with a press conference marking the 2025 Global Privacy Day, where the National Commissioner/CEO, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, delivered a keynote address highlighting the Commission’s progress in safeguarding personal data and strengthening privacy rights in the country.

The event saw the official launch of the NDPC’s Annual Report and the maiden edition of its Journal on Data Protection and Privacy, reflecting the Commission’s strides in policy implementation, regulation, and capacity-building initiatives over the past year.

NDPC’s Achievements and Global Recognition

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Olatunji outlined key milestones achieved since the last Data Privacy Day, emphasizing the Commission’s strategic roadmap and its growing reputation as a leading data protection authority in Africa. He stressed the need for collaboration, human capacity development, and public awareness in fostering a robust data privacy culture in Nigeria.

“Our commitment to ensuring data protection and privacy is not only gaining global recognition but also shaping Nigeria’s position as a leader in the African data protection ecosystem,” he stated.

Job Creation Through Data Protection Certification

Dr. Olatunji reaffirmed the NDPC’s dedication to job creation, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He highlighted the recent launch of the National Certification Program for Data Protection Officers, a domestic certification initiative aimed at creating over 500,000 jobs within Nigeria’s data protection and privacy ecosystem.

“This certification program will empower young Nigerians with the skills required to become Data Protection Officers, ensuring local expertise and enhancing compliance across industries,” he added.

Unveiling of NDPC’s Annual Report and Journal

The NDPC Annual Report, presented during the event, provides an in-depth review of the Commission’s activities, regulatory strides, and policy developments. Additionally, the newly launched Journal on Data Protection and Privacy offers a platform for researchers, academics, and industry experts to publish studies and insights on emerging trends in data protection.

The press conference concluded with a renewed call for stakeholder collaboration to strengthen data privacy awareness and ensure compliance with Nigeria’s data protection regulations.
