President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transforming Nigeria, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support of the National Assembly over the past 19 months. The President made this statement on Wednesday at his Oyinkan Abayomi Drive residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, while hosting Vice President Kashim Shettima, the leadership of the National Assembly, and former principal officers during a New Year homage led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Earlier in the day, President Tinubu had also welcomed members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to his residence.
Addressing his guests, the President emphasized that Nigerians remain at the core of his administration’s policies and programs.
“Nigerians are the heart of everything we are doing. We have come to serve. You have made my day by coming on this visit. Happy New Year. May God bless you and our country and give our nation more prosperity.
The transformative journey we have embarked upon is for all of us. It is for our tomorrow. It is for the future generation. Your commitment will yield that fruit for the babies yet unborn.”
President Tinubu praised the spirit of unity and resilience within the government and assured the attendees of his administration’s determination to lead the country to its “Promised Land.”
“We have confidence and competence. The enslavers want us to be anything but enslaved people, but we say no. We are determined, capable, and resolute, and we will get there. We will take Nigeria to that Promised Land with you,” he declared.
The President further pledged to continue making bold and informed decisions for Nigeria’s development.
“We have a saying in Yoruba that it is only a courageous dog that will capture the animal in the bush,” he remarked.
National Assembly’s Assurance of Support
Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended President Tinubu for his bold leadership and reforms, reiterating the National Assembly’s full support.
“On this journey of restoration, transformation, and rebuilding the nation, you are not alone. The National Assembly is with you and will stand by you,” he affirmed.
Akpabio highlighted the administration’s achievements, including the oversubscription of Nigeria’s Eurobond, improvements in the ease of doing business, and increased foreign investor confidence.
“Investors remain interested in Nigeria because of your leadership, and we will continue to smile as the benefits materialize,” he added.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, also expressed appreciation for the President’s respect and collaboration with the legislature.
“The National Assembly is more united and fulfilled than ever before because you have always responded positively to our requests. This is historic and commendable,” Abbas said.
He acknowledged the administration’s efforts in alleviating challenges faced by Nigerians, noting that the year ended with signs of economic recovery and optimism for 2025.
“We believe 2025 will be the ultimate year where every Nigerian will be proud of this administration,” he concluded.
