I watched one video yesterday when one of my brother Uncle IB did some review on Hyundai Sonata so i decided to throw more light on it.
Hyundai and Kia are so much underated in Nigeria and the reason is lack of information. Hyundai and Kia are the most fuel efficient vehicles but most people are not aware.
They use more advanced engine technology on and that’s why they use smaller engines to push out much power with less fuel.
They make use of technology like:
▪︎CVVT (Continously variable valve timing)
▪︎DPFI (Dual port fuel injection)
▪︎ITMS (Integrated Thermal Management System)
▪︎HTCS (High Thermal Conversion system)
▪︎FOMS (Friction optimized moving system)
▪︎ High Ignition Energy EGR
▪︎Smartstream Transmission.
▪︎Wet 8 – Speed DCT.
Hyundai and Kia make use of smartstream engines. Engines like GDi produce high power and good for high driving speed conditions while engines like MPi are smoother with less power and less speed.
In Hyundai Smartstream technology they combined both GDi and MPi duel injectors on each cylinder and such combination makes the engines very powerful, smart, smooth and silent.
This symmetrical injection pattern also help in reduction of wall wetting and this helps in curtailing fuel wastage.
On the other hand their engines that are tuborcharged have water cooling arrangement. Water cooled intercoolers in this smartstream technology use water for more efficient cooling. This enhances better turbor cooling by reducing the longer distance (turbo lag) compressed air travel to the front of the engine to get cooled by the fan before returning back.
▪︎CVVT: continously variable valve timing unlike the VVT in Toyota, this is more efficient and economical in timing variance.
▪︎DPFI: Dual Port Fuel Injection system uses two injectors for each intake port so this creates and maintains stable Air – Fuel – Ratio.
Models like G1.0, G1.2, G1.6 used in Kia Rio, Sonata, Picanto etc use this DPFI.
▪︎ITMS: Integrated Thermal Management System uses advantage of engine heat and thermal condition to maintain, boost and regulate combustion. This is why once you remove thermostat from Hyundai or Kia engines or connect the fans direct that engine will never remain the same.
▪︎HTCS: High Tumble Combustion System. This system works by thumbling the Air – Fuel – Ratio and mixture to ensure efficient mixture of air and fuel.
▪︎FOMS: Friction Optimized Moving System. The materials used in building the engine are more of light weight materials that helps in reducing friction by up to 35%. This reduction in friction helps engine maximize energy, reduces noise ,heat and vibration.
▪︎High Ignition Energy EGR of the engine ensures high gas circulation system to reduce emissions.
▪︎Smartstream Transmission (IVT): Intelligent Variable Transmission. Newer models of Hyundai and Kia now use the IVT gear system unlike the older pattern of CVT. This IVT addresses the issue of CVT by creating a variable shifting pattern for better engagement by use of durable chain belt instead of metalic belt as in other CVT to solve the slipping and wobling problems.
▪︎Wet 8 – Speed DCT: This technology use system of oil cooling for the clutch system with the help of high speed electric oil pump which gives faster lubrication and clutch cooling with high hydraulic pressure.

1. Every vehicle have their good and bad aspects, no vehicle have it all.
Hyundai, Kia and Genesis have low suspension and fragile bodies. Am sure many people dont know its Hyundai that owns Genesis. Genesis is their luxury version.
2. If your using these vehicles you have to be a very careful person because the body parts are expensive.
The engine parts and underneath are expensive too but they hardly spoil because all their parts in the market are still original for now.
3. Their parts are not too common but if your staying in states like Lagos, Anambra, Kano, Kaduna, Ph you can easily get the parts or sombody from there can help you buy them.
4. These vehicles dont like tampering with their low suspension as we always do in this country.
5. They dont like flood nor engine wash. You can clean the engines with towel and brush but avoid flood or pressure or steam wash.
6. In as much as those vehicle are equipped with intelligent self diagnosing features, you need to have a personal scanner to avoid trial and error.
Every car is good, dont let anybody deceive you. Services any car give you is directly proportional to the maintenance you give her.
