The Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono has reaffirmed his commitment to farmers and agricultural productivity improvement, stating that there is no nation that will survive without food.
The Minister made this known while declaring open, the flag-off ceremony of the year 2021 wet season support to adoption of improved production technology for rice and tomato farmers in Zakirai Gabasawa Local Government Area, Kano State on Saturday 3rd July 2021.
Alhaji Sabo Nanono, represented by the State Director Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development Kano Office, Alhaji Abba Gana Yamani, reinstates his commitment to assuring the improvement of agric-productivity and well-being of farmers.
“Agriculture remains the top priority of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration’s Next Level agenda. Just as Mr President insist ‘we eat what we grow and grow what we eat,’ I remain devoted to the course”.
He further call on the beneficiary farmer groups to make astute use of the inputs, said the job of feeding the nation and attainment of food security lies on their hands.
Minister Nanono decried the indiscriminate falling down of trees in the name of clearing farm land, urged farmers to replace any tree they cut down in a bid to reduce the negative impact of climate change.
The programme, organized by APPEALS Kano Office was aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity of small and medium scale farmers and improved value addition along rice and tomato value chain in Zakirai.
Stating earlier at the occasion, the State Project Coordinator Alh. Hassan Ibrahim laid emphasis on the life changing modifications and modern technologies farmers were introduced to.
Alhaji Hassan expressed happiness on the continuous support of Minister Nanono, recalling that the same program was graced by the Honourable Minister in June 2020 in Tofai.
20 farmer groups were given 80 bags of NPK; 40 bags of Urea; 13 bags of 44 seed bags; 10 Water pump; 1 tricycle; 1 thresher; 10 PPEs; 80 litres of herbicides while 20 hectares of the beneficiary farmers’ land will be harrowed.
Recall that Gabasawa has enjoyed the dividend of democracy in form of projects ranging from rural access roads, mini-water treatment plants, solar powered street lights and several input distribution.
